Foster update for little Joshy! We've really noticed Joshy has been really working on his confidence and trust with us these last few weeks. We havent changed our approach with him. He has started to; - go to his bed off his own accord. - allowing himself to snooze and dream. (Joshy has been waking suddenly at point of dropping off to sleep; like a hypervigilance). **We always call his name to ensure we wake him before we need to walk past him- and never touch him sleeping (as with any dog). - zooooomies!!! This little cutie greets me at the door when i/we get home, tail wagging and trots to our back door.... Then has a proper zoom around!! He loves his tennis ball too. We can spend time with him in the garden doing this instead of a walk if needed. - stairs!! Hmm... So my last update he really wasnt interested, then this last week... We hear a 'tap tap tap tap tap tap' (uncordinated as you can imagine!!) And there he is!! All chuffed with himself! He can go down too (thankfully). -night time whines have significantly decreased, he has a little whiney check in, then with our 'night joshy!' he settles!! He sleeps alone downstairs. We have worked out that *he needs a light on*. OTHER DOGS; Not sure. He has done really well with other considerate owners who approach slowly with their dog already calm and on a lead. I have my own worries / experience about dogs off lead running at me, so I have not put him in that situation, we walk another way. Joshy is interested in cats, squirrels and flitty things however doesnt pull. He does need distracting however and a 'no'. PEOPLE; The people we have met so far have all commented on what a 'friendly' 'sweet' dog he is. He sometimes employs his greyhound lean magnet too! CARE NEEDS; Josh now has 2 meals with his medication. (breakfast and evening) You do have to show and give him a piece of cheese or ham to entice him/get him started. It's like he needs that kick start to eat. It's no problem, it's just how he needs his permission. He has a pre bed night time treat (we give him peanut butter and cheese!) with his bed time medication. Then he has a bonio which he politely comes to ask for and takes it, all chuffed, to his bed!! (He's got a proper routine!! It's very sweet!) OTHER; He lets us put his harness and muzzle on; no problem. He allows us to towel dry him after a wet walk. Joshy is surprisingly fluffy!! Every other day he has a brush! He loves it so there is no problem! We are still getting to know each other. We have not seen any behavioural issues over the last 6 weeks. We allow joshy the space he needs and he has been very respectful of our house and the routine we can give him. (It is only Josh in our house; no other pets or children. Our garden is fully fenced) And thank you to Daybreaks for your continued support. x

So, yesterday we brought Bobby home on trial. So far he has been amazing. Had a good sniff around the garden on arriving and immediately lay down for a sunbathe! When it started to rain later he came in and, after a bit of investigation, decided he wanted his bed down by the patio door and then he lay down and slept all evening! At bedtime we took him a quick walk for a last wee and he settled downstairs on his bed like a good boy. I was woken by a weird noise at 5.30am and found him throwing his toys round the living room! After a quick wee and poo outside he soon got the message it was too early and settled back down. He's behaved perfectly this morning on his walk, eaten all his food and the next step is seeing if he and my sons spaniel can get along together! Xx

Sid has settled in wonderfully well in his new home. We couldn't have wished for a more settled transition. He is certainly gained confidence as he's learnt our local walks and the more busy traffic doesn't seem to bother him. A big thank-you to Daybreaks and his prior Foster carers for their hard efforts. We know both Sid and Maisie are more the better and thriving together. Xxx

Daybreaks Diary!

What a whirlwind of a day! We saw Truf come back from foster and straight back out to another foster. She came back with a glowing report bless her. The lovely Simba has been reserved by one of our volunteers and Bobby has gone out on trial also with two of our volunteers. Cath came with little Pod and all the residents were 'tested' to see how they reacted. Only Gal, Rocky and Robbie are the only residents who need a bit more socialisation training. We have got several viewings booked this weekend which is great. Work has been taking place this week at the kennels with new windows and doors where needed and the roof of one block is having new sky lights. We have been joined with Yeva this week, a student who has done really well and will be sad to see her go. I am off to the vets to collect Socks one of our resident cats as she has had a scan - fingers crossed she is ok.

Today is our Cash's birthday. I know she wasn't a greyhound full fledged but she was cross grey and lurcher, looked the perfect whippet. Sadly, we lost her at the age of 14 last September. She was such an amazing, cute, loving dog. I will always love her, have a place in my heart for her, miss her and never forget her! Daybreaks Diary!

A busy day today...Laura had Pamper customers including the very handsome Padfoot! He had a lean on everyone! Xxx Sophie came in for her four week health check up, she looked wonderful! We also had a visit from recently homed Magic, he is doing well in his new home. :)) We are having some much needed repairs done to the kennels at the moment. Our old blue gate has now been replaced with a much higher, sturdier one. Today, one of the very old windows in the bottom block has been replaced with a brand new one. 🙂 It looks fantastic and will make such a difference to keeping the cold out this winter. Next on the list is renewing some of the panels on the roof of the bottom block. :)) We are so grateful to John the gentleman carrying out the work....Although, we did have to ask him to stop making a noise this morning as he was putting Penny off her breakfast! Xxx Richard and Declan spent a good couple of hours emptying and moving food stores around...Xxx After all the hard work, much to Richard's amazement, I made a hot drink for everyone today...It doesn't happen very often! :)) This afternoon, Alan and Declan went to collect some very kindly donated food and treats for us from Morrisons in Sheldon. Thank you so much. Xxx Thanks you to everyone for all your help today. Xxx

I very rarely ever make a comment on a returned dog, mainly as we can never know the reasons behind the return. However today having heard about Buddy I know his owner was heartbroken and the last thing he wanted was to return him. But he made the sad decision as this was best for Buddy. I hope very much that his return to Daybreaks will be a brief one, so sad for everyone xx

Lady is a gorgeous and sweet little girl. She was very wobbly after her Neutering operation on Monday...Ruth had a full house and car, so I took her home for the night. Xxx She was very quiet and absolutely no trouble at all. Xxx My three were so good with her and very well behaved, instead of their usual dancing around after dinner! I think they knew she didn't feel too well. 🙂 Xxx She has gone out on Foster while she recovers from her operation. Xxx
