2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
It was another busy Daybreaks day today! The doggies all had a lovely walk this morning thanks to the volunteers and our new work placement Stan. Nick & Teddy are still on restricted exercise so we all had a gentle potter round the sand run. It is great to see Nick looking so much better, and Teddy is just happy to be able to go out - even of he does have a very funny walk at the moment due to the boot he has to wear!! This morning also saw the lovely Leo go off to his new home. He looked so very handsome in his new collar, wishing him and his new family many happy years ahead. The current module in my Canine Nutrition course has been about the ingredients of dog food and treats, so as an experiment I tried all the kennel dogs on pieces of raw carrot. Well, the reaction was slightly underwhelming to say the least!! Of them all, only Roary and Rose enjoyed crunching up the bits. Raven had a go but didn't want seconds, and everybody else turned their noses up!! Hmm - don't they know it's good for them?!?! This afternoon was a hive of activity getting things ready for tomorrow evening's event. Ruth would like to pass on her thanks to the gang of Eddie, Dave & Stan who spent the afternoon putting up gazebos and tables, and Shirley & James who have swept and tidied the driveway and car parking area. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us tomorrow, although we will have blankets available should the Autumn chill set in!! Look forward to seeing lots of people and Greys as we get together to remember our boys & girls now playing at the Bridge. Time is flying by and yet another week is at an end, and yes - you've guessed it, it's time for a glass or two of wine!! Thanks for everyone's help today, and look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow. Angie xx

My beautiful Princess, Honeybun, Nelly - all the names I call you. I am so sorry I had to make the decision to let you go. I could not see you suffer but you have broken my heart today. You have been the most wonderful, demanding diva of all times and I worshipped every inch of you. I'm not sure what I do now. I am lost and heartbroken. I know time will ease the pain but never the love I feel for you. Thanks and love to Paul Warman and Sally Rapson who have helped me over the last days with texts when I knew the inevitable was coming and to both of you for the love and care you have given my baby over the years. To my 'Golden' Girl (Goods Cits) up there - shine bright so I can see you. God bless you sweetheart. Mommy loves you. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oops! Sorry for the late update, have been asleep on the sofa....I certainly fit in with the Greyhound lifestyle in our house :)) Teddy's paw is looking good. He had a couple of walks around the sand run wearing a boot to keep it clean. He was very happy to be out of his kennel. X Nick is looking good too. He was a bouncy lad this morning and also enjoyed a gentle stroll in the sand run. 🙂 Brandy is not enjoying being back in a kennel environment. Do hope a new home will soon be his. He is a very affectionate lad and just wants a family of his own. Xx Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today. It was a lovely morning for going for a walk. 🙂 Leo and Marty are both hopefully off to their new homes tomorrow. How exciting for them and their new families. X Must go get my three ready for bed....wee wees and teeth cleaning are needed! :)) Xxx

Loveheart, our new boy Douggie is exactly the same, within 5 minutes of arriving at our house he had pooped in the middle of an Azalea bush (in a pot), he often has to have his bum in a shrub/tree, when he cocks his right leg to wee his left one is too far in and he falls over cos he can't balance on it, doesn't fall the other way around though - strange dog!!!! Xxxxxx

Jato is home ! She has promised not to eat anymore bedding. Bless her she was sent home before they were completely happy the vet wanted her to have a poo before she came but Jato is such a nervous girlie she couldn’t go away from home !!! Less than 5 mins and she was in the garden doing what the vet has spent 24 hours waiting for. Now she is sleeping. Xxx

It is 4 years today since we were lucky enough to have adopted Charlie. On adoption day Kate took his collar off and said " you don't need that now Charlie you're not a kennel dog anymore " So tomorrow is another milestone because he has been a pet longer than he was a kennel dog. I wish everyone could know the absolute joy loving one of hounds brings, adopting one changes lives - theirs, yours and all your family and friends. We love you so much Charlie, you handsome, sweet, loving, daft, AMAZING boy xxx

Mom disappeared while TC and I went for a constitutional on Tuesday morning. I keep hearing her voice but she's not here. Think she's gone to the visit the Welsh estate once more. Lots of strange people keep coming into the house, neither TC or I like it very much. Hope mom comes home soon. Lubs Florence xx

I am so desperately grateful to Kate, Jo and the amazing volunteer team at Daybreaks who have all pulled together whilst I am still battling a viral infection affecting my asthma so I am unable to be at the kennels. Although I am improving, another doctors appointment yesterday and was advised to stay off until I am 100%. I am so fed up as I have so much to do and feel helpless. We have the Remembrance Evening this Saturday with lots to do for organising and setting up so I am after your help....... if you can spare a little while on Friday or Saturday to help set up gazebos, tables, lights etc - please please call the kennels (0121 782 7702) and the message will be passed on.... Ruth x

Teddy had a trip with me to the vets this morning, he had his dressing removed 🙂 but he has go back on Monday to have his stitches out. Sadly until then he has to wear his muzzle whilst in his kennel 🙁 Denise was left to sort cleaning and feeding whilst I was gone. Thanks as always to our Wednesday walkers, the dogs had morning and afternoon walks. We had a new placement student Emily join us today, hoping she enjoys her time with us. Thanks for the fab donations of prizes from Jess's family and the kind donation of bedding. Xx

Well, what can I say. Finn does get bored quite easily and having realised he is never going to catch the pesky taunting squirrel who has a fail safe escape route (he thinks !) and found cat encounters are a disaster for him, having worn a cat on his face like an Haloween mask, he has taken up a new interest. Now you must have heard of Extreme Sports, well Finn is trying Extreme toileting options. We live on quite a busy road and walk along it on our way to the park. To break his boredom he now tries to lift his bottom onto a low wall or back into a bush (holly included OUCH!) and have a poo. lol Even a low branch on a tree will do, he enjoys the challenge I think. He seemed such a quiet boy when we fostered him. Just shows what a forever home can do, he has obviously become as crazy as us lol FFP and proud.
