I walked this beautiful big strong lad yesterday. He is friendly, quite strong on the lead but I think that is because the outside world is new for him. He stopped and looked very interested in a plastic bag blowing in the distance but was completely not bothered by a flapping bird almost above his head!. I think he is going to develop into a real character. xx

I have only just been able to bring myself to let you know that we lost our best buddy and friend a couple of weeks ago, he was suffering from bone cancer and deteriorated very rapidly. He was the most handsome and laid back boy, always wanting to please you, enjoyed his walks and showed off when he met other dogs whether large or small, especially with the girls. He was a great character, a little stubborn when he wanted to be but we loved him dearly as he gave us lots of laughter, smiles and love. We have some great memories but things are certainly very different here. We miss him immensely. Run free handsome boy, you are now free from all the pain. Xxx

    I’m Homed

Another quiet Friday at Daybreaks! No volunteers meant no walkies again today, but this, together with some much cooler weather, meant the boys and girls could have a romp around in the sand run! Some, especially the new boys, just appreciated the chance to mooch around off lead and have a good old sniff at everything. Others took great delight in racing around like loons, playing with the toys and having a high old time. My current favourites Rory and Susie had such fun playing together, but were as good as gold when called when play time was over. It was so funny to see Rory trying to stay awake back in his kennel, his head kept nodding! Bless him he is such a character and the delightful Susie is so sweet -although she does like to sleep squashed up against the kennel door with her back legs in the air and her front legs thrust underneath the bars!! We had a viewing this morning which resulted in the cute little Winny being reserved. Ruby Rebel paid us a visit this morning too, his Mum says he has settled so well and is being just perfect - he looks great. Huge thanks to Jess for taking "the boys" (Roy & Saddle) out to the park this morning as part of their ongoing socialisation training. They also enjoyed a play in the sand run this afternoon - but we still can't wear them out!! We have been blitzing out the back again, and I have been wielding a paint roller on the walls!! Not such a good idea as I think there is more paint on me and my t-shirt than on the walls!! You see - you need to be very flexible to work at Daybreaks!!! This afternoon saw the arrival of sweet little Stella, who was picked up as a stray. She was understandably a little stressed on arrival but tucked into her supper of Burns and sardines and polished it all off. Many thanks for the very kind donation of tinned fish received today, our boys and girls will certainly enjoy those in the weeks to come. I just cant believe how quickly the time is flying by - another weekend is upon us so lets keep fingers crossed that some more of our lovely boys and girls will soon be on their very own forever sofas. I think a glass of wine is called for now! Enjoy your weekend one and all. Angie xx

I have created Daybreaks Daily Diary as a dog so please don't think you can adopt this one! The photo is of Tara, my first greyhound when she was at the Dogs Home. The date of birth is actually the date we opened Daybreaks 🙂 This means we can add comments as well as photos - I hope you think this is a good idea!!!!

Love your words loveheart and i always say the same 'why do I keep having these animals when their departure leaves me broken hearted?' But then you think of all the joy and love they bring while you have them and the heartache is worth it! As previously said, jet is my first dog but already can't and don't want to imagine life work out him! I'm also cat mad and keep rehoming the mankiest, oldest things I can find which eventually do cause the heartache but are wonderful while we have them xxx

Devastated to read this. My Stevie had the same thing just over a year ago. We too decided to try and give him a chance, and sadly a week after the operation his poor body shut down and we had to say goodbye. Such an awful situation. Bunny was much loved by you, as was Stevie by us. It is never easy to make these decisions. Run free little princess, another beautiful angel, run free. xxxxxx

After learning that Bunny had passed over Rainbow Bridge yesterday it bought back many memories of our hounds who are waiting for us on the other side and I was sad all night and wondered why we keep re-homing which will eventually leave another hole in our hearts. Then this morning I remembered. Having been contemplating his breakfast since he opened his eyes this morning, food monster Tony had devoured his before Nina's bowl reached the stand, and was then devouring hers with his eyes as she ate! lol Now I have learnt that if I let him pick up any bits he has splashed on the kitchen floor I can get the whole floor tongue cleaned while he waits to see if she leaves even one burns pellet. However long or short a time our sweet hounds are with us we give them a wonderful happy life for as long as we can, in return they love us. make us smile, get us fit walking (well some of us) and brighten our lives on a dull day plus if your lucky keep the house clear of any dropped food and in my case clean the kitchen floor. "Come on Tony bathroom floor next"
