Thanks to everyone for their help today, we only have three dogs in the Kennels so they all enjoyed extra attention. Sonic is not happy about wearing his cone of shame, Denise spent time with him in his kennel so he could be watched and have a break from the cone! It's definitely warmer but I still felt it was a bit chilly. It was fairly quiet for visitors, just some food collections and sand run bookings. Well, not long now to the big day, it would be great to have foster families for the remaining inmates, it's always good to hear the feedback on how they dealt with the whole 'home' experience. Xx

WOULD YOU LIKE TO FOSTER OVER CHRISTMAS? We have found foster homes for all except three residents! Rocky and Robbie are our longest stayers at the kennels and Sonic who only arrived a couple of weeks ago is reserved and off to a new home on the 29th December. Ruth took Sonic off to the vets for his neutering operation this morning. Thanks to Richard for collecting him this afternoon. He ate his dinner and went off to bed. He is such a sweet lad... Xxx Django went off to his Christmas foster home this afternoon. He seemed much happier today, enjoyed going for walks with the other dogs. :)) Xxx We have had lots of great donations of food, treats, medical supplies and bedding over the last few days. Thank you so much,we are very, very grateful. Xxx Xxx Thanks also to everyone who has brought in chocolates, biscuits and mince pies for staff and volunteers! Very much appreciated. I am getting to be quite a connoisseur of mince pies!.... :)) Xxx We still have Raffle tickets and Calendars available at the kennels. Xxx Xxx

Django went off to his Christmas Foster home this afternoon. He will have the company of two other Greyhounds. :)) Xxx He has been very quiet since returning to the kennels but we had a waggy tail this morning and lots of cuddles. Xxx

What a lovely warm day!!:))) It was great not to have to warm the padlock up to be able to open the door and to only have to put one coat on the dogs for a walk instead of two!! :)) River has gone out on Foster for Christmas with one of our lovely volunteers. I'm sure he will have a great Christmas. Day. Xxx We had visits from some old friends. Who enjoyed giving our current residents a cuddle or two. :)) Many thanks to our students Emma and Jack who came in today even though they are officially on holiday and to all our volunteers for all their help. :)) Big hugs to beautiful Pearl, hoping she will be feeling better soon. Xxx Xxx

It’s taken me a while to post about Pearl as she has been very poorly following her spey since I picked her up from the vets last Monday. She stayed at mine overnight but the following morning she was panting a lot, had bright red gums and her legs kept cramping and going into spasm that she couldn’t stand. She was very dehydrated and therefore admitted and put straight on a drip. Blood tests revealed an acute kidney trauma. I transferred her to Willows where she was admitted straight to intensive care. Her creatinine levels have been erratic but she is slowly improving but is no longer in intensive care and remains stable at Willows. As you can imagine, our invoice at willows is now over £5,000 but she is worth every penny and thanks to all our supporters we are able to fund this. As a Trust it has now been agreed that every dog going in for full anaesthetic will have pre op bloods - this is something we normally just do for those over 7 years old.

Rocky

Took Rocky to Brueton Park yesterday, he travelled well in the car and settled in no time. Once we arrived he was keen to go and explore his new surroundings, he is a very inquisitive boy. He walked well on a loose lead when alone but he tends to be a bit strong when approached by other breeds. He is a little unsure on how to greet other dogs and can be a bit exuberant. He responded well to a firm 'No" and lots of praise when he behaved, as a result of this he was much calmer by the end of the walk when approached by other off lead dogs. He is very happy with other people and loves fuss and attention from them, he was fascinated by the coffee machine at the VW Coffee Shack and had a good lean on the owner. Whilst we enjoyed our coffee, Rocky spent his time watching the action on the Tennis courts. We were so proud of him by the end of our visit to the park and the progress he had made in such a short amount of time. Looking forward to taking him out again soon.
