We are very pleased to say Belle has today passed her Good Dog Citizen silver award. Former Daybreaks dogs, Stanley and Nadie also passed. We are very proud of her and a big thank you too for trainer Julie. Special dinners are being served and well earned, I think she will sleep well tonight xx

    I’m Homed

Timmy has had a busy month. I worked with him to get used to sights and sounds. He sometimes still gets nervous when a car/van passes with a trailer or an empty but noisy truck. He is no longer reacting to the wheelie bin or a bag other then showing interest. I have taken him to the market when they were setting up and he was very curious about a large truck and a small trailer. I am really pleased with him how he has responded to desensitisation. We also had a long trip all the way to Weston Super Mare. He was brilliant during the car journey. We had one stop to allow them to relief themselves. It was very exciting for all of them (Barney and Caesar) they were constantly air scenting. The beach was a challenge as there were dogs running off lead. Timmy found the kites also a scary experience. Overall he did really well and we stayed till the tide come in and he could (hesitantly) explore the sea water. I also took Timmy with me to the Nuneaton dog training club. We had a morning for instructors. This was a perfect opportunity to do some lead work with him. I was really impressed with him as he nicely approached a dog and engaged well with her. Even with a little wirehaired Jack Russell. We did some heel work with him and he was doing well. Timmy, is not a cat dog. He will definitely react to cats and squirrels. He is relatively good with other dog breeds. He is not always interested in them. In fact I feel he is helping Caesar who is reacting a lot less to other dogs with Timmy around. So thank you Timmy with helping Caesar. I have done some more owner absent related behaviour assessments. As I have mentioned before he is fine with me leaving the house if Caesar and Barney are around. He will settle and wait for my return. If I take Barney and Caesar with me, that is a different story. He will start to call for the pack quickly. In terms of managing this, best if he has other Greyhounds around him. Timmy, is a really lovely dog. He is certainly a peoples dog. He will always go up to them wag his tail like mad and happily take all the fuss he can get. He is also doing well with my daughter and is getting used to her occasionally going a bit mad. Timmy is so much more relaxed now and less scared of the world. He seems to really have come out of his shell and now and then is so very playful. It is great to see.

My Gold Star Clean Kennel award goes to all the boys and girls this morning - well done for making cleaning nice and easy today. Glad to report that Cristina’s tail is absolutely fine, just have to make sure she doesn’t bash it on anything else! The sun is shining and it’s going to be another lovely day - let’s hope it’s a lucky day for one of our beautiful hounds. Xx

    I’m Homed

My little Miss Minnie Moose - such a gorgeous girl who just isn't showing herself at her best in the kennel environment. She just wants to be out with you, doing whatever you're doing, exploring - and then having some quiet time to chill & relax. Your forever home is out there somewhere, fingers crossed it comes along soon. xxx

The change in little Lucy in just over a week is so heartening to see. She now jumps off her bed & comes to the front of her kennel when you go past, and is getting used to seeing lots of different faces round her. Well done sweetheart. xx

    I’m Homed

Dougie looks so cute, his overshot jaw makes it look like he is smiling at you. He is not eating very well at the minute, I couldn't even tempt him with my salmon & green bean fishcakes this morning. Things are still so new for him though so hopefully his appetite will improve as he starts to settle in. x

Don't let her age or grey face fool you - this little lady is a real live wire and is so sweet. She has managed to bash her waggy tail today, but fortunately it doesn't look too bad. x

  • Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

It turned into a lovely sunny day after a chilly start - and yes, I got the washing dry outside!!! We welcomed our students back after the Easter break so lots of bodies to take our boys & girls out for a walk both this morning and afternoon, as well as completing health checks, grooming and putting away the donations of towels and bedding received. Not surprisingly the sand run was popular today, and we had a lovely visit from ex-resident Caddy who enjoyed a very short run in the sand run then came into the office for a lie down & a snooze on the bed!! Our 3 newbies are all so lovely, Dougie has an overshot jaw and he looks sooo cute, but he's not eating very well at the minute though. I made salmon & green bean fishcakes yesterday & brought them in for all the residents breakfasts - but Dougie wasn't tempted by them sadly. The rest of the residents polished them off and licked the bowls clean!!! A seal of approval I think! Doggies supper time is approaching now, then it's coats back on and time for bed. Despite the lovely day, the forecast is for a chilly night so we will tuck them up warmly with a heater on. Yet another weekend is here, and another busy diary, so let's keep fingers crossed for a red sign or 2 by Monday morning. I shall certainly be raising a glass or two later on to toast this! Whatever you're up to this weekend, stay safe and enjoy. Cheers! Angie xx
