Couldn't agree more Jo! They are definetly a breed that gets under your skin and never known such a beautiful kind breed. I just wish we could have a lifetime with our special ones but as I always say, that still wouldn't be long enough xxx

I am so terribly sorry to hear that Cadbury has gone to the bridge. I know how very much you all loved him and despite his difficult start and previous homes you gave him the best home he could have asked for. Much love to you all. Jo xx

Ah, she has ears like our Finn. We thought he was a one-off! He is showing his ears off on the front cover of this year's Daybreaks calendar and they look like Chloe's. And they are both blue. What a cute couple they would make!!

it. been a week since we lost Tess and today we received a lovely card from our vet and staff with a packet of Forget me Not seeds to plant. We have a small place in our garden that has our garden ornaments (all dogs) in so we will plant them there. Thanks to all for the comments left here and on FB, so many beautiful hounds have left recently which is sad.

I cannot believe it has been a year since we said farewell to Sarah Scare Bear. Never a day goes by when we don't think about her. I am sure she is standing there waiting to greet all of our beloved hounds and show them how to be young and pain free again. Xx

Daybreaks Diary!

It's been a terribly sad few weeks hearing heartbreaking news about so many of our very special hounds that have crossed the Rainbow bridge. How many of us have said 'that's it, no more'? But, when we are ready we go and do it all over again! We never replace a hound, we merely open our homes and our hearts to another deserving hound. We do this despite the fact we know we will have to at some point have to say goodbye to them too and see them over the bridge. Someone once said 'it's better to have loved and lost than never loved at all'. We give them the best home and retirement, our unconditional love as they do to us, a nice bed/sofa and plenty of lovely food and treats. I firmly believe that once this breed gets under your skin it is implanted for life. Please, despite how painful it can feel at the moment, do not discount homing another regal greyhound, they will reward you with so much love and gratitude. Jo x

Timmy
I’m Homed
I got a call last Tuesday if I could take in a highly stressed young boy. Not happy in the kennels, chewing bars etc. After a chat with the big boss, I agreed to have him. I took Caesar and Barney to see if they get on. In the run it was a bit of fun and games, but after a chat I still took him home. On the way home, he produced lots of smelly farts, which continued in the evening. We let him settle in the home and this all went well. The next day the farting almost disappeared. He is a loving and exuberant young boy. Always pleased to see people. What I have noticed that he is happy and playful in the house. However, he is a bit scared of the world out there. He is constantly air scenting, he can cower when a car door shuts, he scared of automatic doors or loud noises, such as wheely bins or trolleys. He was even scared of bags the caught the wind. This is not a problem when correctly managed with positive re-enforcement and being calm and patient with him. I also done a owner absent related behaviour observation. This has shown that he is fine when he is with other dogs, simply settles and you don’t hear him. When I walk my boys separately, and he is home alone or even with my wife there he will whimper and bark. This suggests to me that he probably be happier with on or more other dogs. If alone he needs to be taught to be happy on his own. Which takes lots of patients and time. During the walk he is chaotic, which can be expected given his nervousness outside. This is easily managed through lead control. He is not cat friendly or at this stage used to different breeds. I have walked him using treats and sat down at certain points so he can get used to the sights, smells and sounds of traffic with continuous positive re-enforcement. He has been to Dobbie’s and today we will go to a forest. All this to aid his positive experiences. We have a 5-year-old daughter. She has had dogs around her since she was born. We have taught her how to be around dogs, what to do and not to do. Timmy is fine with her, when my daughter gets over excited or makes noises that catches Timmy’s attention, I will need to tell her to calm it down. Dog interaction with baby’s, toddlers and children must always be supervised. A dog who is fine to changing to a dog not being fine with a situation takes only a fraction of a second. Timmy is a very affectionate dog; he has calmed down so much already in a short space of time. He greets you with a happy face. In the morning I am woken up by his tongue, when he gets overexcited, he can nibble your hand or nose. He is a lovely young boy to have around likes to play with fluffy toys. Sorry for the essay I hope it helps.
