I admit I was one of those who doubted Mikey would stay in Ruth's newly constructed run! :)) but he was such a good boy and loved it! His favourite visitor Jill got in with him and they both snuggled up for a snooze in the sunshine. Xxx

Caesar
I’m a Sponsor Dog
It is so very sad to hear the treatment hasn't helped with Caesar's tumour, but at least thanks to everyone's generosity and Erik's unfailing support for him he had the chance to try it. Xxx He is still a very handsome, affectionate and happy lad who is loved so much. Xxx

Leo came to see us yesterday! Wow, what a different lad he is to the one who left the kennels. He has put weight on and is so relaxed and happy in himself. I didn't recognise him! He obviously adores his family and they him. The best bit was watching him go home in the back of their mini...he is so big, but loves it! Lots of love to you all. Xxx

Caesar
I’m a Sponsor Dog
Caesar came to Daybreaks yesterday and enjoyed a Reiki session with Tina. Tina does sessions and donations are going to support Caesar for the rest of his life. If you would like to book a reiki session for yourself or your greyhound please give us a call. I posted this on Facebook but as Erik commented, after a long discussion with the vet at North Downs Referral Center where Ceasar has been receiving treatment for his mast cell tumour on his tongue, we feel that no further intervention should take place. He has not responded well to the treatment and the only other option is to remove a large piece of his tongue. We feel this wouldn’t be fair on the little chap. He is in long term foster with Erik and Irina who will look after him whilst he has quality of life which we hope will be around 9 months. A massive thank you to everyone who donated to help fund the treatment with the hope of helping him and sincere gratitude to Erik and his family x

Padmae has settled so well, day three and she’s been clean through the night, no issues with cats, other dogs or food. Fitted in perfectly.

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
What a very busy day! First thing I put together a small run which had been donated and the gorgeous Mikey sat in there most of the day seeming very contented. Albeit low in height everyone thought he’d leap out but I had quiet words with him asking him to prove them all wrong! He is visibly nervous of certain men. In his kennel when closing up I sat on the edge of his bed and when Andy came to say hello to him initially he was very wary but with reassurance he started to relax. The gorgeous Archie was signed up and we bathed him and his greyhound sister Angel. Along with a visit from Caesar, Barney and greyhound sister Charlotte and family, Tina was busy doing Reiki sessions. I did lots of nail cutting and redressed the gorgeous Lady’s foot after digging out some grit yesterday. The phone was totally nuts all day! We had lots of volunteers and visitors and Kate and I left at almost 8pm absolutely shattered Great day though x

Caesar

Ok, it is now really time to get the tissues out. Caesar has been receiving Chemotherapy to try and cure the mast cell tumour under his tongue, his last visit showed insufficient response to the treatment. There have been long discussions about what to do next with all concerned. After considering Caesars current response to the treatment, sadly and with a heavy heart, it was felt that an operation to remove part of his tongue is not in Caesar’s best interest to ensure quality of life for Caesar. This means it is the end of the road in terms of his cancer treatment. We will continue to give him the love and care until he crosses the rainbow bridge. For now, we will make sure he continues to have fun. A MASSIVE thank you to all who have donated to make the treatment possible in the first place and all the support messages for him. Please keep the positive thoughts and love coming for Caesar, he will still need those.

The beautiful Archie has been rehomed today. Very sadly his owner became too unwell to look after him and he has been fostered for a while now. During this time he underwent an urgent dental and has thankfully recovered. Today he was signed for officially and I am so grateful to Nes and David for looking after him along with the care of Rosie and Rachel who fostered or have helped with walking. I am truly grateful to you all. x

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
I'd like to start by saying a massive thankyou to Ruth, Jo, Chris & Dave & all my friends at Daybreaks for my fabulous 60th birthday surprises today. I feel very spoilt and it's lovely to be a part of such a great "family". However I think I am still in denial of the fact that I have actually reached 60, it just doesn't seem right!! Anyway, we did actually get lots of work done today! The lovely Porsche went off to her forever home first thing this morning, wishing her and her new family many happy times ahead. The residents enjoyed morning & afternoon walks, and in fact the sun shone on us this afternoon! I had the pleasure of walking the gorgeous Chunk, and what an easy boy he is to walk. He is so affectionate & loving, and gives the best kisses, but absolutely hates being cooped up in his kennel bless him. Fingers crossed he soon finds his forever home. Ruth was kept busy with lots of teeth and nail customers today, and whilst she was on her knees she had a look at Lady's paw as she had been limping. Lady was such a good patient while Ruth was digging around, and she eventually managed to extract a big piece of grit from the pad. Lady is now sporting a very fetching yellow bandage, but is a lot more comfortable bless her. Well its the weekend again, and looking at the diary its going to be a busy one! Let's keep everything crossed for some red or better still green signs by Monday morning. I shall be raising a glass or two of Prosecco later to toast the boys & girls and wish for forever homes for them all soon. Whatever you are up to this weekend, stay safe - cheers!! Angie xx

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
A busy day today. 🙂 Coco has been reserved already! He has only just unpacked his bags! :)) So happy for him. He is a really lovely lad. Xxx Ruth found herself carrying out two unexpected pampers this afternoon. Two gorgeous, friendly Greyhounds...she also discovered the lad had corns, so they were dealt with too. 🙂 Jean who is helping us out on Thursday mornings in the office bravely volunteered to sort out the big cupboard where all the homing paperwork for every Greyhound homed from Daybreaks since opening in 2006 is stored! We did contemplate disposing of some of the very early folders...but it just didn't seem right. 🙂 Xxx Many thanks to all our walkers and volunteers today. I'm very grateful to Lee for helping with health checks and feeding this afternoon. 🙂 It's been a long time since we welcomed the Pet Blood Bank to Daybreaks. I understand for their visit next week they will be coming in their mobile unit. All visitors will be by appointment only and donations will be taken under strict Covid safety regulations. 🙂 My late Fletch was a donor and gained his five donation badge, Skip gave twice but then decided it wasn't for him. As everyone else has said it is a great thing to do. Several years ago, our Twiggy had to have a big operation and there was a donation of blood ready for her in case she needed it. Thankfully all went well and it wasn't used for her. However we were asked if we wouldn't mind it being donated to help a poorly dog in a rescue, which we were more happy to say yes. You can be sure every donation is used wisely. Xxx
