I have to report that I have a cross between Oliver Twist and the Thief of Bagdad living in our house. Aka "Steve" He has learnt most of the rules of the house from me and Fat neck Finn, but the "Kleptomania" is no better, lol. This morning I heard a crash in the room next to the kitchen and put my head around the door to see the bowl and oranges on the floor and Steve heading off with one in his mouth! He had obviously decided if we eat them they must be good! I am also beginning to wonder if he is a budding alcoholic ! I have a whiskey liqueur every night, and my husband a cognac, Unfortunately, the second night we had Steve he saw me drink mine and ever since has been set on trying it, as I seemed to enjoy it. Well, the night before last in an unguarded moment he drank it out of the glass without even knocking it over !!!!! I walked in to see him smacking his lips and reeking of alcohol, luckily I only have a small amount so he suffered no ill effects and went for his evening walk as usual. He is always looking for food and never full up. Last night after they had been fed I saw him licking around Finn's mouth in the hope there were a few crumbs left there. No chance of Finn leaving anything. lol, He is still very loving especially after my alcohol (a bit like my hubby) so it is hard to be upset with him for long, he is learning all the time and now knows Oranges are not to his taste! lol

Every time I go in the bathroom Monty likes to rub up against my bath towel and grab it afterwards. I keep finding it on the floor and was thinking it was the others knocking it of the rail. He loves his family very much and we get a lot of love from him. He has just started reading ABBA books he takes it off the shelf. Must of heard about there new Album.

We are very happy to welcome Cracker into our family! Xxx We very sadly lost our beautiful Fletch earlier this year, which meant we had a big empty Greyhound shaped space that needed filling. Xxx Cracker is settling really well although Lyra was less than impressed to discover he likes playing with toys! HER toys! Even the Nylabones! Skip isn't that bothered and Fletch had his own special teddy. 🙂 Lyra and Cracker did share a blanket in the garden this afternoon, so I'm sure they will sort things out. :)) Xxx

Daybreaks Diary!

Thanks as always to everyone for their help today. It was a busy day and very hot. The inmates had morning walks but this afternoon was far too hot, although the lane was shady the hounds would have still had to walk on a stretch of pavement to get there. We didn't want any burnt paws. So...it was a nice stroll around the shaded area of the sand run, they didn't seem to mind! We had three new arrivals, first to touch down was Mac, a very handsome white and black boy. Such a happy little chap. Next we had pretty Holly, white and blue, very lively and a very happy girl. She arrived with the equally handsome Billy, he is very nervous at the moment, his trainer tells us that once he knows you he is fine. In fact by the time we had finished feeding you could see he was more relaxed. As it was so very warm they all had their arrival baths in the feeding runs! Thanks Dave. Thanks too for the donations of bedding. We had a viewing late afternoon, the lovely couple are coming back on Saturday, they have narrowed the choice down to two dogs at the moment and are going to weigh up the pro's and con's of which dog will be the best fit for them (if either are). They even bought a new martingale collar in anticipation!! It looks like the weather is on the turn over the next couple of days, so much more bearable for the hounds and the hoomans! Thankfully it looks as if Sunday will be dry and not too warm for everyone. Ok, I will probably put this message out over the next few days until Tiggys Greyt Get Together: PLEASE BRING YOUR PENNIES AND PLEASE BRING YOUR POUNDS BE REASSURED IT'S ALL FOR THE HOUNDS!! Take care all, hopefully see lots of you on Sunday. Xx

It was good to see our friends from the Pet Blood Bank today. It has been a long time! Tess, "Younger" Mikey and "older" Mikey became donors. They all had a great time and loved all the extra attention they were given! They came away with Blood Donor packs to take with them when they go to their new homes. I understand older Mikey made sure everyone had clean hands before he donated! :)) Well done to the pet dogs who came along to donate today. 🙂 We are hoping the Pet Blood Bank will be able to start to visit us more regularly now the Covid restrictions have been lifted. If you are interested in your dog becoming a donor please give them a call them on 01509 232 222 for more information. It was a very hot day again but we managed to keep the dogs quite cool in the kennels with lots of fans. 🙂 Thanks so much to everyone for your help today. 🙂 Thanks to Alan and Declan for doing a warehouse run for us. Alan also brought chocolate donuts with him! :)) Three new arrivals are due in tomorrow! Xxx

Our little pocket rocket gave blood today. We're so proud of her. When booking her in they asked if she'd happily be led away from us. Yes. Does she like treats? YES. Does she like people? Too right. Today she proved all of that. When they opened the door out she trotted with her red PBB bandana as if to say, look what I've just done. She had a quiet day at home - roaching a lot so we know she was happy. Hopefully she'll continue to be happy to donate and we'll go every 8 weeks or so. If she doesn't want to again then we're proud of what she's done.

Cooper came to visit the Pet Blood Bank today. When we arrived he was very cautious about their mobile unit. He came into the kennels and was quite happy to have lots of love and fuss from Auntie Kate. We went out to the PBB unit and he was again very unsure. He even turned down treats, never before has he refused anything! He did however eventually accept some cheese. He hopped into the mobile unit and I went back to the kennels as I couldn't go in with him. About 10 minutes later he was brought back into the kennels, apparently he climbed under their table and wouldn't come back out until they opened the door to bring him back to me. He then very happily devoured every treat given! He still got his goody bag with treats, a toy and a sticker in it. Such a Mommy's boy. We will try again, but only when I am able to go in with him for moral support and to give him some confidence. Well done to all the hounds who managed to donate today. X

Over the Rainbow Bridge
I have to comment re the hounds who raced in Canada and then it appears were shipped off to Pakistan. I am really upset by the lives some of these beautiful gentle Greys end up living. Many are treated as commodities and moneymakers. Thank goodness laws have tightened up some in this country and thank goodness for places like Daybreaks xx
