Sounds like Barney had a great time while waiting for Caesar to have his treatment recently. :)) So sweet to hear how much he cares about Caesar. They make quite a team! Xxx

We were all disappointed to hear Caesar's treatment hasn't shown anything too positive as yet...but maybe on his next trip there will be an improvement. We are so grateful to Erik and his family for all they are doing for Caesar and to Barney for showing his support to his friend! Xxx

Another vet trip for James, this time to take Bono for his neutering op. All went well and James was able to pick him up quite early this afternoon. Like Charlie he really enjoyed his dinner when he came back too! :)) Charlie had a very busy day...Norman took him for a short trip to the park this morning. He was a very good boy. Xxx. When he returned there was a lovely couple waiting to meet him. :)) They decided to take him home for a break from the kennels. We are so grateful, fingers crossed he will love his change of scene! Xxx It was a "puppy" day today! First an incredibly pretty young Galgo came in for Ruth to take a look at her lumps and bumps on her ears! Then another beautiful pup arrived for Lucy to clip his nails! :)) Xxx Thanks so much to everyone who came in to help today, so very kind. Xxx

Barney

Well Barney had many adventures. The main one was giving support to Caesar who had to go to Surrey for his second cancer treatment. An update on his tail. This is healing nicely; I did re-bandage it a couple of times just to prevent Barney from licking the wound. As a precaution he is given some anti-inflammatory meds. The medical collar I have is not as effective with him as he knows how to move the collar back so he can reach his tail and is licking it. He is such a clever boy and knows how to solve problems. Barney is such a caring and sensitive boy it is beautiful to watch. If one of us is upset he will come to you and just sit with you. When Caesar went in for his second chemotherapy treatment and was led away, he was really watching where Caesar was being taken to. Head and ears up and looking full of concern. When we picked Caesar up he was equally watching the doors waiting in anticipation. When Caesar arrived he went quickly up and greeted him and had a good sniff to make sure he was ok. Whilst Caesar had his treatment we went to Whitstable. Did Barney enjoy the sea air? His nose did not stop exploring the very different smells, he really loved it. We went on the beach and he also found that very interesting, he was happily exploring the water and the wind. It certainly was an adventure he enjoyed. This is what Barney is like he loves going out and about exploring the his surrounding, forest, parks, now beaches. As we had to travel allot it also gave me a good indication what he is like traveling. To put it simply he is perfect, as he does on shorter trips, he will initially stand but soon he will lie down and you will not hear or see him. He is a bit particular about his water, I offered him many times but would not drink whilst we were away. When we returned home, first thing he did was to have a drink. My wife keeps reminding me that I should mention that Barney is a bit of a guard dog. We have had many Greyhounds stay with us, but, Barney is the first Greyhound who will bark at noises outside that he does not know. So if people are running passed our house he will let them know what he thinks. Once we had a funny episode where the upper front window was sightly open and people started to talk by that window. They did not expect a dog to join the conversation with such a loud and deep bark. The people who had their conversation interrupted also had a good laugh.

Caesar, has had his second treatment last Friday. It was again quite a long day for all of us. We set off at 06.00 in the morning and Barney also come along for the trip. Caesar was a brave boy and went in to the treatment centre ok. My wife did mention that his tail was tucked between his legs. Barney was showing some concern as his mate went of and he had such a worried look. We picked Caesar up around 15.00, he had taken the treatment in his stride. Barney’s response whilst waiting was again filled with concern as he was looking at the doors to see when Caesar would come. Caesar was a little dozy but was quite ok overall. The conversation with the vet was a little less optimistic. He told me he would have expected a response to the treatment, meaning a reduction in the size of the tumour which had not occurred. Whilst I did feel myself that there was no change, I still found the news disappointing and a bit upsetting, I must admit. The journey back was again slow, but both boys did well and we had a break in between which they both needed. It is so amazing with Caesar, he bounces back so quickly and remains full of life. On Saturday he did sleep a lot and he did seem to feel quite hot. Again, he has been keen to go on his walks and do other activities. The next 10 days are going to be important for him. Lets hope and keep our fingers, legs, arms and toes crossed that there is a response to the treatment. On a positive note, the vet feels positive about being able to do an operation if this is needed. He feels he can remove the tumour in such a way to allow sufficient tissue to remain. Even if he has to do a more dramatic removal, whilst Caesar may be a messier eater (no change there as he throws his food around already) and drinker he could still have a good quality of life. So it is not al doom and gloom. Lets all send Caesar, lots of positive thoughts and loving thoughts and lets get him through this so he can enjoy a full life in a forever home 🙂

It was Charlie's turn to be neutered today....James very kindly took him to the vets for us. I picked him up this afternoon, he was very bright and wide awake! He really enjoyed his dinner on his return to the kennels. :)) Bono had a lovely time out in the park with Liz. He has been quite unsettled since his arrival and it was good for him to have a break from the kennels. We had a visit from Bocko and Prince this afternoon. Arthur also popped in. They all looked great. It's always so good to see previous Daybreaks residents. :)) Thanks so much to Yvonne, Myra and Hunter for all their help today. Rosie came in this afternoon to sort paperwork for us. :)) It was a very wet end to the day with a torrential rain storm just before we went home. 🙁 Thanks to Richard and Declan for patching up the roof for us. All seemed nice and dry!!

Sounds like you had a greyt time at the park with Liz_Beth, thanks for taking him. I am sure he really enjoyed a change of scenery, a little unsettled in the kennels as it is new to him, he is a happy boy nontheless. I had to put a light dressing on his tail yesterday as despite being a little fed up in his kennel he still managed to wag his tail and this resulted in a minor case of 'happy tail'!!! He is a very affectionate lad (as Angie and several more of us can vouch for) and especially with the glowing report from his meeting other dogs today sounds like he would make a fantastic pet. Xx

Ah Bono sounds like you had a lovely time at the Park, and were a good boy on your first venture out into the big, wide world. Many thanks to Elizabeth for taking you out, you are such a lovely soul and yes, you may be a bit of a big fella (honestly Kate, most things are taller than me!!!) but you are so sweet and give the best hugs. xx

Bono came with me to Elmdon Park this morning. He was an absolute dream to be with. He couldn't wait to get out and had to be leaded up outside of his kennel to save his waggy tail hitting the walls all the time. He walks at a lovely pace and enjoys having a good look around. He is very chilled out and has a lovely temperament. We met lots of medium to large dogs and he was great with all of them. He is an absolutely super boy and he will make a fantastic pet xx

Daybreaks Diary!

A bit of a miserable start to the day but it soon brightened up and was really quite warm. Thanks to everyone for their help today, it was lovely to have Lynne back, and was great to see Simon at the end of the day. Many thanks to Lynne and Denise who turned into the best couple of scrubbers I have ever seen!!! (I must explain that they gave the courtyard around the feeding runs a good clean). Denise was back on chicken house duty again this morning, they do love when she gives them a treat of a few broken biscuits. Lovely little Millie (the young one) was signed up today, she is such a happy little girl. Ruth had appointments for nails, teeth scraping, corn removal and spot popping, ooh she does like a good spot or two!!! Another new week upon us, here's hoping for some more red and green signs this week. As always stay safe and well all. X
