...no problem Ruth. I was basically sending a message to Stephers about getting that second grey. I actually think getting a second can be more nerve-wracking than deciding to get your first. We'd had Gent for a year, he was a very happy boy and he wasn't pining for a companion - I guess it was more for us than anything, thinking he'd have a little friend. When we first put them together there was no great romance, no fireworks, in fact they totally ignored each other, sniffing at separate ends of the run and more interested in their surroundings than each other. We took that as a positive sign (at least they didn't hate each other). We've now had Emily and Gent together for a year. They are both so different individually, but together bring us so much love and laughter. They are simply a joy to have around and we say they're like an old married couple! The effort involved really isn't that much extra either, if you're walking one....if you're feeding one...etc, etc. Have a chat with your parent, I'm sure if they are already involved with The Stigg, they won't find an extra one too much of a stretch. Good luck and I hope it works out for you. Mand

Leave him with a well stuffed Kong or even two as he's on his own (full of things he will have to work at to get out like mashed potato with bits of liver, cheese, sausage etc etc as most separation anxiety happens in the first 20 mins of being left. Also leave a worn jumper or tee shirt in his bed so it smells of you and that should help comfort him, you can also get a small tee shirt, sleep on it and put it on him when it starts to get dark and the damn fireworks come out .. if its small it should be close fitting and he'll feel hugged plus draw all curtains, have the telly on and make sure he's been out to toilet before the fireworks start (difficult I know). Look at the Tellington TTouch that I teach .. we did some short Workshops last year to help people teach their dogs not to be afraid of fireworks and we had great results ... we're planning another one at the end of Nov or early Dec and I'll let you know. Appropriate exercise to make him tired can also help - a good hour in the afternoon preferebaly somewhere where there are lots of interesting smells to wear him out and a 45 min walk in the morning should also help plus a late wee walk tho my girl is worried by fireworks so her last walk is aout 11pm and only in the garden wearing her TTouch wrap. Coming to one of the training classes we offer too - the dogs enjoy it and you can practise which can also help distract him when fireworks go off. Julie

Jack
Over the Rainbow Bridge
It's been nearly 2 months with Jack now and no real problems. I am a little worried though that Jack looks very sad for a lot of the time. More worryingly, I had a quick chat with my next door neighbour last night who informed me that Jack cries, whines and howls a lot (and loudly) during the day. Millie's owner usually pops in a couple of times a day but it appears that when no one is in the house with Jack, he's sounding really distressed. I bought a DAP diffuser last week because of the fireworks (Jack hates them) and have left that plugged in constantly but it doesn't appear to be having much of a calming effect. Although he's not having any accidents in the house, it's just really upsetting to think he's at home and crying/howling while I'm out. Any advice as always would be appreciated.

Rolo and Smurf are getting on ok so far. They look like a pair of bookends with each one on a sofa each. So far so good no quibbles yet. All of Rolo's twitter furiends think Smurf is a beautiful boy, making them a perfect match.

Oh Lucy looks wonderful. So tempting. I really want to take on a 2nd grey, I think it would be the making of The Stig (Matt) and Lucy seems to be the right age and temperament. Just gotta talk round the parent for the occasional dog sitting duties xx
