    I’m Homed

We had another new arrival today. Gorgeous little Twirly! So very cute. Xxx Phoenix has managed to get something in a front paw. Ruth tried to remove it but couldn't quite reach it. He is now wearing a nice pink bandage while we see if the drawing cream will help get it out. Poor Phoenix wouldn't leave the dressing alone so is now having to wear a cone... :(( Xxx Topsy gave Yvonne a scare this moring while she was cleaning the kennels. Topsy managed to get her nose stuck in between the bars of her kennel and was screaming so loud Ruth heard her from the sand run! We all came running in but we'll done to Yvonne for freeingTopsy's poor little nose! No harm done. Xxx As both Topsy and Spike are finding kennel life rather difficult at the moment we paired them up together and they are sharing the top kitchen run and kennel. They both seem much happier. Xxx Thanks so much to everyone for their help today. Xxx

  • Barney

    I’m Homed

Lovely to hear how Barney has progressed and I totally agree with Erik that he needs his forever home. Barney was with us for 3 weeks before going to Erik and he was the same with us, being so excited to see us. But he went off happily with Erik when he took over Barney’s fostering (which I found more difficult than he did!) and I think he may be the sort of dog who is happy wherever there is someone to love him. Please please someone take this lovely boy home xx

    I’m Homed

It has been a little while, it is unfortunate that this lovely boy did not have any viewings during his 2 day stay at the kennel last weekend. This boy has made such strides, from being a very nervous dog in the kennels to now a very relaxed and quite dog. I understand he has not made a sound during his stay. He is house trained, knows what he can and cannot do. Of course he is a dog and will take opportunities when they are presented to him, any good scavenger would do that. He loves being outside and relaxing in the grass, he enjoys his walks and with the heat he is getting less then he wants, so he moves my walking boots. He is an easy walker always has a smiling lead. He is great with our 4 year old daughter who has and is being taught how to be around dogs. He is first to go to bed in the evening generally sleeps through the night. He travels well in the car, simply lies down until you reach your destination. So he is doing really well. He loves to play with fluffy squeaky toys and generally makes us smile No dog is perfect of course, he is a bit more stubborn then most of the greyhounds we have had, in essence he is a true Greyhound. It is taking longer with him to get him relaxed and accepting other dog breeds. It is not aggression he is simply unsure, but he can lunge at dogs so I am working with the thunder shirt now hoping we can turn it around. There are lots of techniques that can be utilised so we keep going with him on this. When I picked him up on Saturday, it made me have mixed emotions. When Barney saw me he got excited and rather vocal. One the one hand it is nice to have him react to me like that. On the other hand it also shows he is getting more and more attached to us as a family. This is a little bit sad as it may take him longer to settle once he does get his forever home. Please give this boy a chance arrange a visit by calling 0121 782 7702

  • Jack

    I’m Homed

I took Jack home with me on Tuesday as we were a little worried about him. He seemed so sad and had also had an upset tum and slight temperature for a few days. I took extra cleaning products ‘just in case’.... however this lad has been as superstar! Not one episode of upset tum, he is loving his walks across the fields, eating well and even playing with toys! We think he was suffering from ‘I’m very sad in my kennel’ after sadly being returned recently- bless him. His coat was coming out in handfuls when Lucy groomed him Tuesday and already he looks like a different dog. He has been left several hours at a time and his new owner is going to have a wonderful addition to his family. I threatened to swap Tony for him as he is perfect on the lead whereas Tony thinks I’m a maypole!

  • Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

It started today with Denise opening up the kennels, she was greeted with an explosion in New boy Spikes kennel. Bless him, I think he was unsettled and sadly had a very messy kennel and also managed to lie in what he had done. So, he had his second bath in two days, thankfully for him it was only from the waist down! He seemed snore settled this afternoon? Thanks to Wednesday walkers the dogs managed morning walks along the lane. This afternoon was too hot to take them out, so the paddling pools were filled, they had a lovely cool down (not sure Spike appreciated another water related activity)! The others all seemed to enjoy the experience and came out a few times to cool down. Thanks to Denise, Dave, Chris and the Wednesday walkers for their help today and to Alan who did the warehouse run and took Dave. Just a reminder, (and I know that most of you will know) that when it is hot your hounds will need to go out earlier or much later in the evening, they can easily burn their pads and also suffer with dehydration, keep them cool. X As always, stay safe and well all. X

Spike arrived at Daybreaks today. He is a stunning lad! His trainer told us he loves his walks, his food and is a bouncy happy boy. He was a little unsure of his new surroundings this afternoon and was very quiet. I'm sure he will find his bounce when he has settled in. Xxx
