Sanka, you sound like the perfect dog, clean in the house, not bothered by other breeds, quick learner, good recall, (My husband is thinking of swapping me for him, as I have none of these qualities, especially the recall!!!) I do hope there is someone looking for a boy like this who doesn't have small children and he can bring all his good karma into their lives. good luck sweetie xxx

Sadly Sanka has come back to kennels today, It is felt that he would be suited to a home with older or no children. He has good recall, is a quick learner, is clean in the house and is great with other breeds of medium to large dogs. If you are interested in offering Sanka his forever home please give the kennels a call.

    I’m Homed

Sadly Leo has become something of a "boomerang " foster boy and as yet has not found the home that will suit his needs. However I have to say that after enjoying his company in Elmdon park this morning there are definitely no issues whatsoever with him while he is out and about. He travelled perfectly in the car, walked sensibly on the lead and showed no interest in the many shapes and sizes of other breeds that we passed. He obviously loves human companionship and it could be that a home where he has regular company and lots of trips outdoors will suit him well. Hopefully that home is not far away for this lovely lively lad

  • Caesar

    I’m a Sponsor Dog

Caesar has been both an angel and a devil. In the house he is a sweet naughty boy and I have such sweet images of him in the house with my 4 year old daughter and in the car to. As always she is supervised when she is with the dogs. Caesar also showed his devil side last week. It surprised and shocked me, as it was out of the blue and out of character. He has been very good around other dogs and even at the vets when there was a little puppy he was curious but gentle. The devil side showed when we walked up a narrow railway bridge. You cannot see who or what is coming. Caesar was first on top and when I saw the other young Rottweiler type dog, I was raining them in for better control. Before I knew it Caesar leaped at the other dog and held his nose. Barney also joined in. Luckily I managed to get them both of no serious injuries, a small cut to the other dogs lip. It just shows when dealing with animals you always must be on your guard. Some may say, ohh why did they not have a muzzle on. For me it is simple, to prepare them for their live after the kennel you need to trust them at some point especially when they don’t show any aggression or nervousness for a while, as always he is fine with other Greyhounds it is other breeds that can make him unsure, it is an assessed risk. I have since muzzled them again and also split the two foster boys. I walk Caesar on his own now. I have also paid very close attention to his body language. Generally he is excited but neutral. When he sees other dogs he may become just curious but I also noticed that he can occasionally starts to lick his chops and his tail can go between his legs, these are signs of anxiety. I also noticed that a more bouncy/active dog will make him more nervous and respond. In hindsight the narrow bridge a bouncy young dog made him charge. I should not forget that he has cancer, and he may have an off day or be in more pain which will also cause him to respond we simply do not know. We also took Caesar to Birmingham for an excursion. He did not fully enjoy that experience. He found the train station interesting but the town with all that noise and all those people he was not so keen on. He was very tired when we went to the Kennels and much happier once there. On the way back home both my daughter and Caesar fell asleep and Caesar rested his head on my daughters lap.

  • Barney

    I’m Homed

Barney has shown a side which has been a surprise. Partly his behaviour is the pack mentality. Caesar attacked a dog, no serious harm done, cut to the lip, however, Barney also joined in and went for the throat, he did the same with Caesar once, when Caesar tried to muscle in on Barneys food. This is Barney’s technique of control by using this strangle hold. I find it fascinating but that is of course as I am studying canine behaviour. I have noticed with Barney that narrow spaces and a bouncy dog may make him respond. He is also back to the muzzle and I have paired him up with Charlotte (our Greyhound) who walks slower and needs less but is also very calm around other dogs. I hope this will rub of on Barney based on monkey see monkey do principle. Otherwise, Barney has been a good and naughty boy. He is responding well to his name, he has calmed down and is better at being alone. He does have a dislike for muzzles, he takes them and then chews the leather straps of so they became unusable. He has done that now with his own and Charlottes muzzle, that’s why we had to go to the kennel and pick some up. He still takes my boots and places them somewhere random. Barney is a persistent table top surfer, but also getting better at responding to our backs. Kitchen, given the chance, is his favourite place to rummage again he is learning that this is not wanted behaviour and the child gate helps. My daughter (4-year old) and Barney like to play with a artificial snowball she throws it and he runs after it or catches it. They can have great fun that way, but always supervised. He also loves playing with a squeaky fluffy pig or a squeaky ball. He will toss the pig around and just likes chasing the ball in the garden. Overall he is doing very well and is ready for an active forever home. The longer he stays with us, not only is it cost to the Kennel, but he also gets more attached to us as a foster family. He will be such a great addition to an active family and if he has bothers and/or sisters I believe he would enjoy that even more
