Perdi whined and howled when we had her, but we totally ignored her (if we gave her toys/chews she just left them and howled anyway) and she improved as the first week progressed. We didn't want her upstairs, but I nearly caved in because she sounded so forelorn! We eventually had a few quiet nights, but we decided to have a second dog to keep her company anyway 🙂 Having two is no more trouble than one and they are v sweet together. So my advice is either ignore it and I'm sure it will improve or get him a friend! xx

Hi Lisag He's probably never had to be on his own before .. greys always have company so its hard for them to get used to being alone especially when they've just retired and everything is new and maybe scarey for them in the outside world. Does your heating go off at night? If so he might be cold so get him a warm fleece coat for pyjamas (greys only have one thickness of coat so feel the cold more than other dogs) or is his bed near a boiler or similar that might be scaring him?. Otherwise you could put his bed in your bedroom which usually solves the problem or if you'd rather he wasn't in your room put a childgate on your door so he can see you but put his bed outside and he'll probably settle. You can try ignoring him and seeing if he'll settle .. if you go down to him that's attention so it just teaches him to whine more- you could try leaving him with a Kong full of things like mashed potato, bits of cheese and liver etc etc so he has sometihng nice to occupy himself at bedtime. My girl ate a lot of my doorframe when I tried to get her used to being in the kitchen at night so I just gave up (and understood her 🙂 ) and put her bed in my room and she's been fine ever since 🙂 Good luck with him 🙂 Julie x

I'd take her and her limp any day of the week, but I am on a greyhound ban now!! She looks so cute and chilled out, bit like her big brother!! You'll find a home soon xx

We understand how much it upsets you, our little girl Petal was still charging round the fields at the age of 15! Please don't loose sight of the amazing work your doing with her and her recovery is down to you, her trusting in you is lovely. If you need any help with anything just let us know, we have a little bit of experience with older grey's. We would rate metacam a lot, it got Petal through to 16 xx

When my Tigger was very ill last Christmas I saved over £250 buying her antibiotics and pain killers thro the internet - my vets prescription was £10 each product but it was still a huge saving. Tig had damaged discs in her neck ... she was given Tramadol as painkillers by The Willows ... (she had to take 3x daily plus Metacam 🙁 ) anyway I meant to say that my vets were not keen to prescribe them and only did because The Willows had given them to Tig when they treated her BUT they were obviously a much better pain killer so when Maisie needs a bit more help than Metacam there are other options .. also have a look on Greyhound Gap's forum cos every so often someone asks what pain relief everyone's dogs are on and I've learnt a lot from them .. I just wish I'd known before I lost my last lurcher with desparate arthritis and my vet said there were no other painkillers to help him 🙁 J xx

does anyone have any tips on whining? He's being the model house mate, except he is begining to whine a little when he goes to bed. Ive left Classic FM on for him and he has a little light, but for a good 20 mins he really whines. Not sure if Im supposed to go down and tell him off, or just ignore it? any help would be appreciated xx

Thanks Mand, thats really helpful as I planned to use the company that Rich recommended - cant believe the difference in the price!! maisie has had a bit of a dodgy day today, going down on her back end a couple of times whilst going to the loo. it upsets me, but then I realise that she will have good days and bad, and I mustn't forget the huge improvement in her state since she arrived. I wish I had a magic wand to make it all better for her - she is so brave & trusting. X

Our vets gave us a prescription that lasted 6 months, which covered about 2 lots of metacam for petal, they charges us £12 for the prescription. We then sent it to the company and they kept it on file so we didn’t have to re-send one out (as long as it was still in date). Hope this helps your little angel :). Rich, Manda, Rolo & Chillie xxx

Hi lady victoria, if you girl is anything like ringo flypants she must be lovely. I just can't get over how sweet he is, absolutely no trouble at all, clean, lazy and just happy to potter around. He has been a little nervous but today he had a little play with a stuffed bone, throwing it in the air. We took him for his first proper off lead run today in an enclosed field. One blast and he was spent!! Im not sure the last time he had a good run, but he flaked out for hours after. He hates the muzzle tho and I wish I could take it off him, but Ruth suggests leaving on for the forseeable future because of the cat and after witnessing his speed when he lunged, I can see why. He will get there and Im loving every second with him xx He doesn't like Guitars tho (or maybe it was Stus playing!! lol)

Had a look at the metacam online prices & the difference is huge! My vets charge £10 per prescription - is that about right? Be good to know what everyone else is being charged. Thanks guys. X

Hi lisag, Ringo has the same Father as my greyhound Twiggy; she is white and black too. You are right they are so lovely, I have had her four years now and when I look at her she still takes my breath away. Hope all continues to go well. Kind regards xx
