Happy 6th Gotcha Day Nifty. We cannot believe it's been 6 years since we bought you home. We are so grateful to both Kate & Ruth for allowing us to have Nifty. Nifty was a longstayer at Daybreaks after spending 7 months waiting for a home. Niftys Gotcha Day wish is for all those residents at Daybreaks get their forever homes soon

We had to resort to the trusty can of Halfords lock de-icer to get into the kennels this morning!!! Lordy it was fffreezing, but the boys & girls were all toasty and warm in their cosy kennels. They all got my Gold Star clean kennel award today as well - thank you kids, made my life much easier! My heart still aches for Josh - he does not like being in his kennel and will not go back in once you have brought him out for his first wee. We popped him in the doggy kitchen this morning, where sadly he had another chew at the door once we were out of sight. I think everyone's Christmas wish is for this soul to find his very own home soon. xx The kennels is starting to look festive ahead of tomorrow's visit from Santa. There will be stalls both inside the kennels and out in the sand run, so plenty of opportunity for us to relieve you of your cash, lol!!! Stay safe and warm everyone - and hope to see some of you tomorrow. Angie xx

Oh Josh darling, I am so upset. You were such a good boy when at mine and with Fergal. I dont know if something has gone wrong or the lady has had a change of heart. You are always welcome here but with you being a bit destructive on your kennel returns I know it isn't suitable to help you just part time in terms of house visits. You are still welcome here for Xmas but it will be the same problem when you return. I will keep praying for someone to give you the commitment you deserve. I cant bear the thought of you spending the rest of your life in kennels. Come on DB followers & volunteers....where ever you live....there must surely be an experienced dog person or couple who have a child free, animal free house.....please, please.....this boy is lovely, well mannered & just wants his own sofa.

It has been sooooo cold today! Grateful thanks to Michael and our 3 work experience for keeping things running whilst I dealt with non stop phone calls, along with corns and nails and sorting donations brought in and our influx of post. Thank you also to Elizabeth who took Josh to the park today. he is very sad back in kennels and despite letting him spend time in the kitchen today rather than his kennel, he chewed all the stable door 🙁 All we need is a quiet home where he can be on his own and this would be a dream for us........ Thank you to everyone who is sending in raffle tickets and donations - I really appreciate it. I am especially grateful for the very kind donations in memory of Ruby to help towards the cost of her scan. We will be hanging a memory tag in remembrance of her and will remember her especially tomorrow on what would have been her birthday. I am still at the kennels as my car wouldn't start and I am still waiting for the breakdown service so a much needed glass of wine and probably a chinese takeaway is on the menu tonight!

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a wood, at the foot of a hill, in a lush green meadow where time stands still, Where the friends of men and women do run, when their time on earth is done, For here between this world and the next is a place where all beloved creatures find rest. On this golden land they wait and play, till the rainbow bridge they will cross one day, no more do they suffer in pain or sadness, for here they are whole. Their lives filled with gladness, their limbs are restored, their health renewed, their bodies have healed with health imbued. They romp through the grass without even a care, until the day they stop and stare. All ears prick forward, eyes sharp and alert, then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack. For just at that second their eyes have met, as they see each other, both person and pet, they run to each other these friends from long past, the time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt whilst they were apart has turned to joy for both in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, then side by side they cross over together. Like everyone else I am just gutted to learn you have gone. You were so sad when I gave you a cuddle the other week....it is clear you have been unwell without any obvious signs, for probably quite a while. Life is so cruel and I feel the depth of sadness that your parents must be feeling but I am glad you did at least get the chance of a nice home and I am just so very sorry the last weeks have been unsettled for you. Rest in peace lovely girl. I hope you find my Melly and Teddy. They will be just the right tonic you need until those that love you can join you. Love Seana and Fergal xxxx

Ruby fell asleep this morning with myself, Kate and her previous owner hugging her and telling her how special and loved she was. She slipped away quickly and is no longer suffering. Sleep tight little one..... we are heartbroken x

    I’m Homed

Despite our sadness of the news I’d just received from the vets by telephone about Ruby, I was over the moon that my favourite boy was chosen and went straight off to his new home. The family had a greyhound shaped hole to fill following the loss the previous day. Toby not only has a new home but a new name… I’m going to miss this fella who used to rest his head on top of mine when I used to give him cuddles, just like my Tony used to do…. I’ve already had photos and messages to say he is settling well x

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Yesterday morning I took Ruby to the new Blaise referrals center in Longbridge. Ruby has been with me since last Thursday evening on foster after Cath brought her round to mine, who had been fostering her previously but due to commitments couldn’t keep her. Ruby had started falling over, very often would be ice cold despite coating and blankets and had a very poor appetite. An MRI was performed yesterday and sadly confirmed our fears that she has a large mass… nearly a third of the size of her brain. This explains her incoordination, lack of appetite and temperature control. She has been on our bed again all night but has been very distressed and sadly the kindest thing we can do for her, as advised by the neurology specialist yesterday, is to let her go. We are all heartbroken…. yet again…. My thanks go to Chris and all the fabulous volunteers for opening up and closing down the kennels so I could take her for her appointment. X Her scan and appointment yesterday cost us over £3,000 so if you are able to donate towards this please click on the link below - there is a donate button on the right hand side of Rubys page x

Pan last went to Elmdon Park 8 weeks ago and today returned for the 2nd time. He's now been with us at Daybreaks for 10 weeks and is possibly starting to suffer with "long stay black dog syndrome ". This would be so sad as he is an affectionate loving lad who met other breeds today without any aggression. He does get excited at the sight of other dogs running free off the lead..... but only in a "friendly let me play too"" way. Let's hope his forever home can arrive before too long

Jack is such a handsome kind boy. So loving. He is eating OK atm I think a bit shell shocked after working kennels. He's such a lovely soul. He will be a fantastic addition to anyone's home. Xx

    I’m Homed

I took Jack to Elmdon Park today. He is such a sweetheart. We saw lots of dogs from Jack Russell size to Golden Retriever. He showed no signs of reactivity towards them and if anything, seemed a bit bewildered and intimidated by them. When we were approaching a dog, he sometimes stood still (as if to say 'If I don't move, they won't notice me') or turned in the other direction (as if he thought as long as he couldn't see them, they couldn't see him!). He was a bit braver when it came to following a dog from behind and did have a couple of cheeky bum sniffs before the dog in question noticed him. All he needs are a few more chances to get to know that other dogs aren't too scary and can be his friends. He has a gorgeous coat, friendly temperament and is such a happy boy. Hopefully he will find his forever home soon xx

    I’m Homed

Shanesmum is right, it was very chilly this morning! At least it was a nice bright day and our Daybreaks residents enjoyed morning and afternoon walks. Xxx We had two new recruits to our morning walking team. 🙂 Xxx Thanks to our fabulous DofE students for entertaining the boys and girls with enrichment treats and toys. 🙂 Xxx Bessie came in for her 4 week health check. She looked great and as beautiful as her photo in next year's calendar. Xxx Penny went off to her new home. She is such a sweet little girl. She got quite bored of all the filling in of her paperwork...but did enjoy modelling various coats and Fleeces. Of course she looked gorgeous in everything! Her lovely new family were so excited to take her home. Wishing them lots of great times together. Xxx Thanks to everyone who popped in with donations of bedding and treats. Xxx it was lovely to see George's Dad. George went home a couple of years ago and is very happy living in beautiful Cornwall. Xxx It was very quiet at feeding time, thanks so much to Anjna for feeding the dogs and for doing all the tidying up! Xxx Xxx
