We had one Greyhound at the kennels today...Skip 🙂 He enjoyed wandering around and was first and last in the treat queue! 🙂 A day of cleaning and tidying. Thanks so much to Yvonne for cleaning all the kennels in the top block and to Shirley for keeping the bedding store under control and to Richard and Declan for going on a trip to the tip! 🙂 A rough night for lots of our pets tonight...Bonfire season is not a happy time for my Lyra and Fletcher. Skip doesn't care! I received a call from John this afternoon to say Fletch was in the bath! 🙁 When I got home he was in the wardrobe in the spare room along with a terrified Lyra. They are both still in there listening to "Sounds for Pets" on Clsssic FM. 🙂 Such a shame for all animals who find this time of the year very stressful. Xxx At present we are keeping the sand run open as it is very easy to "avoid" contact with anyone else! Please call the kennels on 0121 782 7702 and we can book your time in the diary. If we are not going to be there we would be very grateful if you can pay for the run in advance either over the telephone or we can send a link to your mobile. We will also be able to supply food, carry out nail clipping and Ruth will hopefully be able to help with corns. 🙂 We feel these to be essential to our dogs health and wellbeing. It will be strictly by appointment only so we can make sure everyone can stay safe. Xx We do have two new arrivals tomorrow and another one on Saturday. They were scheduled to come in this week before the lockdown was announced. Looking forward to meeting them. Xxx

It might be a bit late but we are thinking of everyone with scared hounds tonight. We know how bad it is as we experienced it when we had Barney he was shaking the whole time and was absolutely terrified. We feel very fortunate that Russ is the total opposite and not fazed at all. Xx

Ronnie has settled in so well. Very inquisitive dog and fun loving. He is obsessed with toys, he loves rolling around with teddies and squeaking balls. He’s got on so well with out female grey, even came over and leaned against her when she was shaking cause of the fireworks. He’s a big boy with lots of love to give ??

It was soooooo cold today and strange with no dogs in kennels apart from Penny who was waiting to go to her foster home this afternoon. Although quiet with no other dogs Ruth rallied the troops (namely Denise, Dave, Richard and Ian) to collect items for Tiggys fundraiser. There were visitors to use the sand run, collect food and for nail cutting. Momma, Tig and Penny had a morning walk courtesy of our Wednesday walkers. Although we now have no dogs on site we still have the resident catscand chickens. I think the cats were expecting a peaceful day, not so, as my Arry decided he wanted to bark at them for most of the morning. Arry loves cats, unfortunately not in a good way!! Ruth's chickens seem to like their new surroundings, they too attracted the attention of Arry and Maisie Moo who after some initial interested were quite good around them. Well, with the second lockdown upon us please stay safe and well. X

Thank you Lady Victoria - we have a lovely home with space ready for a hound who can live with our cat so any news will be very welcome. In the meantime I will keep popping into the site and giving cuddles to the lovely hounds you have here!

Our last two residents left the kennels today. Prince went off to his foster home and Ruth has Penny at home tonight until she too goes to her foster home tomorrow. It was very sad to once again have to lock up without any Greyhounds to say Goodnight to...fingers crossed it won't be long before we can reopen again. Xxx Despite only having Penny and Prince at the kennels today there was still lots to do, including relocating Ruth's chickens to a home closer to the kennels rather than at the end of the sand run. Richard and Declan did most of the work while Shirley and I supervised! The chucks were great and took it all in their stride. 🙂 They very obligingly went into a small dog crate so we could transport them to their new home....we did get stuck for a while when we forgot someone with four dogs had booked the sand run! We didn't think it would be a good idea to stroll down with a crate of chickens :)) Xxx Sending lots of love to all the girls and boys who have very kindly been fostered. Do hope they enjoy the experience and maybe one or two will find their forever homes! :))) Xxx Hoping everyone stays safe and well. Xxx

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Seana, I'm so very, very sad to hear Mel has gone to Rainbow Bridge. He was such a special lad and a perfect genetleman. A kind and gentle soul who was at Daybreaks for quite a while before you found each other. During his time at the kennels he looked after several nervous new arrivals who found moving home a stressful experience; he had such a calming influence on them. Xxx Thinking of you, Fergal and Teddy and sending lots of love. There is a beautiful new Angel in heaven today. Kate, Skip, Fletcher and Lyra. Xxx

Mel beautiful boy, run fast, run free at the bridge, shine down bright tonight. Another special angel gained his wings today. Much love to your mom, Teddy and your actual son Fergal. Xxxx

    I’m Homed

And so another piece of my heart has died today and through my tears as I type I would like to pay tribute to my brave soldier Siren Melody who went to sleep at 10.45am this morning. Mel was one of the most generous, gentle and kindest spirits that has graced this planet and I will be forever grateful to have had the honour of sharing these past 5 1/2 years with him. I wish it had been more for he deserved a much longer retirement but in this daily existence we call life one has to deal with the cards that are dealt. He battled his illness and difficulties with such grace and not a single complaint and was very accepting that today his time had come to leave me. I am so grateful that we did achieve his 13th in August so I really should not complain but I am so very sad and gutted and I will miss him terribly. My bed will be so lonely tonight without his face snuggled into my shoulder. I love you Melsbels. Sleep tight and wait for me as I will come for you one day. Give my love and kisses to my Mum and Archie. Rest in peace my beautiful boy. xxxx A massive thank you to Dr Roy Earle and the nurses at Amicus for their kindness and gift of letting me stay with him this morning. God bless you all. x

    I’m Homed

For my wonderful son Fergal and bestest stepbrother Teddy I have asked Mummy to send you the following message: When tomorrow starts without me and I am not there to see, The sun will rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me. I know how much you both love me as much as I love both of you, And each time that you think of me, I know you will miss me too. But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name and petted me with her hand. I thought about our lives together, I know you both must be sad, I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had. So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we are far apart, For every time you both think of me, I will be right there in your hearts. Fergal my son, it has been so wonderful to have shared time with you these past 14 months. Please continue to be a good boy for your grandmother and give her lots of love at this sad time. Teddy, my wonderful sensitive stepbrother. It has been such a joy to spend nearly 3 years with you. You have been so respectful and loving and I know how upset you were this morning. Be assured that I am now at peace and on my journey to find my grandmother Mary and stepbrother Archie who I am praying will be waiting for me so that whilst I will miss you all on earth I will not be alone at Rainbow Bridge. Be good boys and one day please god we will all be together again. With all my love forever, Melly xxxxxx

    I’m Homed

Thanks for doing yesterday’s update Kate.... so many went out and it was a really hectic day. We left at almost 7pm - so I didn’t have the energy to update last night! I took Rocky home with me - The lovely Diane who had been fostering him brought him back to the kennels as we had a home lined up for him. He was collected from our house last night and if he behaves, he’s bagged himself an amazing home. He really is a super boy Who lives his cuddles so I’m hoping he fills the big boots that Robbie left to fill. Tiggy and Momma have not moved an inch this morning.... think they deserve a day off! Not for me though.... although I’m not at the kennels I’ve got a day of running about collecting donations for a Tiggys fundraising- It’s wonderful to have so much support x
