Jack had a nice relaxed Sunday. When he went downstairs I took him outside straight away. He had a number of wees and a poo. We soon went for a walk and did an other walk along the canal. Was very pleasant and both Jack and Charlotte were sniffing constantly so it took a bit of time. I had to get the car cleaned but decided to leave Jack home with my wife and Charlotte. A car wash may just be a bit to stressful for Jack. My daughter and I were away for a couple of hours. When we returned my wife told me that Jack had been singing beautiful songs even though Charlotte and My wife were home. It just shows that Jack needs training to be left alone as there are no specific triggers I could identify which make him sing. The afternoon was relaxed we stayed home and only went out for a evening walk. Again this was very relaxed took a different route along the canal. It was greatly enjoyed. We came across a Akita cross. We also come across a mastiff and Jack was fine with both no reactions He did find people playing football interesting. The evening meal come and went with no issues. Jack has made great progress this week. He has gone from a kennel dog to a well behaved pet very quickly. When he first arrived he had wee and poo issues, being a bit nervous, not sure home to behave with our old girl and singing now and then. Today, Jack is a dog who will ask himself to go out (we also recognise the signals), touch wood no accidents today. Who is calm, responds well to instructions, likes his comforts and is confident enough to take himself away if he wants peace and quite from a four year old. Jack appears to respond very well to positive re-enforcement, ignore unwanted behaviour and really praise wanted behaviour. Jack you done brilliant the last week, made some much progress absolutely brilliant well done!!!

Yardy has been with us for a few weeks now and so far, very sadly no one has offered him a home. 🙁 He is a wonderful, happy soul waiting for someone to love him and give him the chance to love them too. He will brighten up every day and make you smile. 🙂 Xxx He does need a little help understanding the big wide world but he is a smart lad and in the right home will soon learn the right way to do things. Xxx He is very good looking too! I have a soft spot for the white and black lads and lasses...Xxx Hoping his dreams will soon come true. Xxx

Today a nice day with some activity in the late morning and early afternoon. Jack was up nice and early. We went straight outside and he did to wee’s there. Even though he did those, he still had a wee inside. As mentioned, he needs to be neutered. We had a nice walk today; we are all getting used to one another so Jack walks really nicely with Charlotte. When Charlotte is sniffing in a place, he rushes there to join in just in case there is something good to smell there. The rest of the morning he relaxed, my daughter was quite exuberant today, but he did not flinch and just ignored it. Today our school trip took us to Ventura park. There we had some walks. We met a toddler who wanted to greet our doggies. It was a good example how it should not be. The child was jumping up and down and making lots of noise right Infront of the faces of Jack and Charlotte. In doggie language that is a show of aggression and with the wrong dog that could end up in disaster. The parents were sensible enough and took the toddler away. It also shows how good both Jack and Charlotte are, they did not react at all. There was another trip to Pets at home, we had a nice walk through the shop and also bought some food and treats. We had a walk around Ventura park. It was rather busy there today and Jack met a puppy Golden Retriever Jack had a good sniff again very well behaved. After we returned, we relaxed Jack could not settle but when my wife covered him with a blanket he relaxed. My wife thinks he likes his comforts. The evening was very relaxed. Jack and Charlotte had another walk this turned out to be quite wet. They both patiently waited for their turn to have food. After Jack had his dinner, I have learned to take Jack out in the garden to avoid him having accidents in the house. Jack did a very gentleman like telling off, of Charlotte. I heard a very soft growl and saw that Charlotte was lying on Jacks bedding. I removed Charlotte from Jacks place so he could lie down. Fair play to Jack After I have observed Jack for the last five days, I have changed my mind whether Jack will do better in a pack. Jack and Charlotte do not lay close to each other up stairs or in the dining room. Jack is quite content to go upstairs and lay down there to relax. I think what Jack wants and needs is someone to be around, human or canine. I do not belief he will be fussed who it is he simply want company.

Hi Ruth, cannot thank you enough for trusting us with Jorden, yes agree that first introduced had some of us concerned, but honestly he is absolutely the best, he has settled in so so well our terrier Bert is so in love with him, since losing our lovely boy Joe a few weeks ago which again came from Daybreaks, Bert along with the rest of the family have been missing him so much, but Jorden has made that very large empty hole becoming more bearable, will keep you updated thanks again Ruth and your amazing team at Daybreaks xx

Today Jack had a more relaxing day. After all the adventures we had it seemed like a good idea to just spend some time at home. The morning started well, Jack is now able to go up and down the stairs by himself. We went out straight away for him to relief himself. I made sure he had not one wee but two. Then we continued with our morning routine to get our daughter ready for her last day at Nursery. She wanted us all to walk to nursery. If fact she wanted to walk with Jack, which we allowed. I allow this because either my wife or I are close with her so we can intervene if needed. Additionally, we had Charlotte before our daughter was born so she is used to dogs. Most importantly, we guide our daughter constantly on how she must behave with dogs. Never allow a toddler, young child to be unsupervised with a dog. Bottom line is that they are still animals, the dogs I mean ????. However, It does show the confidence I have that Jack will calmly walk. After the hour walk, it was time for breakfast after their 45 minute rest. Unfortunately, after breakfast Jack did a wee near the food bowls, I did not have the chance to take him out. To me it is territorial behaviour which neutering will help to resolve. Jack rested for the remainder of the morning. Then it was bath time, I first washed Charlotte. Jack is not a silly dog the moment he saw Charlotte in the bath he went upstairs. One Charlotte was done I got Jack from upstairs, no problems. I manage to lift him in the bath and had a pampering session. He was as good as gold but went upstairs to relax. He relaxed upstairs most of the afternoon until I started cooking. He really wants to watch me cook in case some food could be found. I had to reinstall a child gate, we had this also for Charlotte when we first had her as she would also constantly go in the kitchen. Just to make my live easier, I placed it back. Then it was time to pick up our daughter. We decided to leave both at home and again record how Jack was. He is already so much better being on his own, he did not do his normal songs but just the occasional whine. He will still need training on being on his own. Jack had a good day today. less accidents today, this is also as I understand his signals better and pre-empt what may occur to avoid the accidents. He was brilliant in the bath and such a gentlemen with walking with our daughter.

Daybreaks Diary!

It was a surprisingly nice morning with some warm sunshine, so our residents had a lovely walk. New girl Raven is such a pretty little thing and she walks beautifully. She is a little anxious when she cant see you, so we popped a raised bed in one of the feeding runs and she spent a lot of time out there watching the comings and goings of the kennels - although she chose to lie on the concrete floor rather than the bed!! It was a fairly quiet day, a few visitors for the sand run but not much else so I got lots of mopping and cleaning done whilst Chris did the couple of health checks that were due. During the morning we heard from Jordan's foster Mum - and we have another member of the FFP Club!! So happy for him. We watched the black clouds roll in this afternoon but managed to get the walks done in the dry before the heavens opened thankfully. Unfortunately the washing that was drying nicely on the line wasn't as lucky!! Rosie brought little Flash in this afternoon in time for her to meet up with her new Mum & Dad and go off to her forever home. It was lovely to see her again, she is really gaining in confidence and is managing to bear some weight on her poorly leg now too which is great news. Wishing her and her new family many happy times ahead. Well the week has flown past and another weekend is upon us. I will make my usual wish, accompanied by my usual glass of wine, and hope that some more homes are on the horizon. Cheers one and all - Angie xx
