Sam
I’m Homed
We took Sam to the Hall Green Worcester walk today to give him a break from kennels. He needed a bit of help getting into the soft crate in the campervan but lay down straight away and travelled without a sound. He walked very well and merely looked at other breeds, no pulling. Off lead dogs playing in the field interested him but he didn't pull or bark. A quick pull on the lead and a call and we were on our way. We went to the cafe after with the other greyhounds and owners and he was VERY interested in treats and human food so will need training but the fact he's food orientated should help enormously with training. We took him back to kennels and could hear him whining once in his kennel (not unusual at feeding time and with people around) but it tugged on my heart strings especially as he's such a baby. So we've brought him home for a day or 2 to see how he gets on in a home with other dogs - we have Bert 13 and Skip 5. Right now they are all flat out after a busy day but we haven't left them alone. When one of us goes out of the room, Sam goes to the gate but we think it's inquisitiveness at this stage. He clearly loves people. He didn't make any noise. I'll put another post on tomorrow. Hopefully he'll sleep! Also I hope Skip sleeps as he's finding it a bit odd having a newbie around. Bert doesn't seem to care less! He takes it all in his stride.

Honey
I’m Homed
We are appealing for owners with other breed dogs to help us with Honey and the other current residents at Daybreaks. As you know many (not all) of these dogs are unsocialised with other breeds and this is why we use muzzles. With our help and training we can overcome this but we need your help! With Sara visiting, we used to have the help of Louis the Border Collie but sadly this will not be so often now. My second greyhound Holly was terrible with other breeds - whether they were larger or smaller than her as she just didn't understand what she was dealing with. It took several months but she ended up not needing her muzzle as she became great with all breeds, even cats, became Pets As Therapy registered and even was used for helping a child overcome his fear of dogs. Honey was returned from her previous home because she ended up biting another dog because she was unmuzzled whilst out with a dog walker. Therefore we want to ensure we can do everything we can for her to help continue to socialise her. Therefore if you are an owner of another breed especially if they are used to Greyhounds (as we don't want to scare them), please could you give the kennels a call on 0121 782 7702 between 9am and 5pm so we can arrange for you to visit and help us out.

I’m Homed
Hello Friends. It’s my first gotcha day after being adopted from daybreaks kennels , who took care of me after I retired from racing. I’m really happy with my new family and and I think they are really happy with me. This is my furever home; I’ve got space, choice of 2 sofas, 4 coats, 2 leads and the garden to walk around in. Occasionally I run for fun in the garden, but I’m too fast so am careful. I have 2 bowls, water and food and get breakfast and tea. Fish is my favourite. Fit and healthy and happy. Being a greyhound is great! So what have my adopted family got? They got me! A companion, happy to walk anywhere, happy to travel anyway (but not share the driving), happy to just be there, but never in the way. Someone who’s happy to wake up early in the morning. They got someone who brings smiles to people they meet. They got a bigger family. Today I thought back to kennel life and so had a walk with some of the hounds currently staying there, telling them to look forward to their furever homes and their first gotcha day

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
What a difference in the weather today from last Saturday! It was back to winter, cold and wet. :(( We put the cool coats away and got the fleeces back out again! We had two new arrivals, Susie and Bolt. Both lovely happy dogs. Thanks to Jayne and Lucy for giving them both a bath and checking them into the kennels. Xx Pretty little Cara was reserved by a lovely family this morning. 🙂 Her tail is healing well. We are so grateful to Shirley and Richard for fostering her after her operation. She will stay with them until her new family are ready to take her home. Xx Hector came in for the day. He really is a fabulous lad. He spent some time in the office and also met Lucy's Ellie and sat with her in the kitchen. He was absolutely no trouble at all and was very calm when meeting visitors to the kennels two and four legged. Jayne did change his name to "Horace" on several occasions!! If you would like to meet Hector or Horace :)) he will be spending the day at the kennels again tomorrow. His foster Mom and Dad are happy to speak to anyone who might be interested in offering this handsome boy a forever home. Xx Thank you so much to everyone who came left a message in the Memory Book for Sara and gave a donation. Her Dad came in this morning and brought Louis for a play in the run. 🙂 If anyone would like to join Sara's family for a drink after her funeral next Tuesday, you are invited to the The St Bernard's Grange Pub, Barrows Lane, Sheldon, B26 1QJ. Xx Xxx

with heavy hearts and many tears we have lost our Beautiful Breeze - she entered our family like a hurricane and left us with a sigh. She became very poorly very quickly and we made the best decision for her and the hardest for us and on Wednesday curled up in my lap she slipped over the bridge. Sleep tight little lady. Xxxx
