  • 2019 Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

Thanks to ever one who took a kennel dog on the Sheldon Country park walk, and thanks to those who came in to help on another cold day. I am sure that it got colder as the day went on! Little Olive was sadly returned today and almost immediately was reserved by Kin and his mom. He looked at the other residents but she was the one he chose, they were absolutely great with each other. She will be going home tomorrow pending her home check. Reggie was also reserved by a family with a retriever, he was great with him. We had 2 new arrivals, I see lots of you have already commented on them. The very handsome big lad Hector, weighing in at over 39 kilos! He is lovely boy. We also had little girl, Rat (I know, that is the name that she came in with), she is so pretty and friendly, and yes she does deserve a pretty name that would suit her, we will have to work on that one...Rat, I mean! Thanks for the donations of bedding, always appreciated. Don't forget we have 2 great raffles going on at the moment, a photo shoot and a very large chocolate hamper. We also have a wonderful array of items on our donation tables. The memory wall looks great, remember if you would like to have a tag done to commemorate your rainbow bridge hound the donation is just £15.00, and the tag will remain on the wall forever. Here's hoping we can home lots of houndies before Christmas, what a fab present that would be for them. X

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Shandy had a lovely walk with everyone around Sheldon park today. So lovely hearing how everyone’s Greys are doing and Shandy gave out some kisses :-). She’s been curled up since we got back snoozing the day away and has only just got up to ask for a walk. So looks like it’s off out into the dark and the cold........she loves it, mommy hates it.....we will be popping in over the next few weeks to drop off Christmas goodies for the kennels as I haven’t been able to get to the kennels due to work and other commitments (I’m very much missing my Saturday walks with the other volunteers and workers and all the greys that I instantly fall in love with-hopefully it won’t be to long before we get a big brother for Shandy) :-).

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Lecky came on the Sheldon walk with us today. She needed a little help to get in the car but after looking out of the window for a little bit settled down. She was eager to get walking and sniffing around her environment and at times interested in the small dogs running in the park but walked really well and passed different breeds no problem and after a little hello of our Grey Shandy walked by her side beautifully....got my fingers crossed you get a home for Christmas xxxx

Very sadly little Olive was returned today, her owner was very upset at having to do this. She would not settle if he went out and feel that she would benefit from having the company of another dog. Hey presto, literally within minutes of arriving back she found herself reserved. The lovely Kin came in with his mom to have a look for a new friend and he chose her. Happy endings do happen :))

We took the lovely Stan out for the Sheldon country park walk today. What a great boy, he's very friendly and inquisitive with non- greyhounds and although he is a big strong boy, he's really easy to handle... For such a big boy he has a very squeaky yap though! So cute. He was really good for his walk and so very gentle when I gave him a treat at the end. I really hope he finds a home soon he's a fantastic boy.

So we go to the beach a lot and I love it so much. Mom and TC aren't happy that I run so far away though - I always come back! Mom took me right down to the sea to see if I would run away from the waves, a big one came in and washed over mom all the way up to her knees, I got away in time! Mom just laughed and said something about me and chicken. I always like some chicken! Lubs to all. Florence xx

Could not agree more with the last statement. I had Jed after 120 races and he has been so chilled. Jed walked into the house for the first time, saw his new bed and looked at me as if to say “that will do nicely thank you”

Just to clarify, we don't choose most of the names, the dog normally comes into kennels with a pet name already.

Oh no please dont tell me this. We were so praying she could be kept as she has settled in. At least she has been fabulously looked after & I will pray there will be another kind person or family who would suit a more mature lady. I have a special love for those more in need....I wish I could take her & Hector right now!!!!! Come on folks......there must be someone out there........??...

Oh my goodness...you are gorgeous & I love the name. Welcome Hector. My Mel was 7.5 when he retired. I wish I could have you. I will pray you dont have to wait toooo long for a lovely snugly sofa. Come on people......dont overlook the older residents. They are usually so chilled & have even more love to give, if thats possible, because they so badly want a home to call their own. My Mel settled in straight away as though he just knew what was required. You have such a kind face Hector.....it would be impossible not to fall for you on meeting I am sure!!!
