If I left the food cupboard open Fat neck Finn wouldn't notice we had left. The only anxiety he gets is being separated from food !!! Sure Nick will improve, he has waited so long for a family of his own it's understandable he doesn't want to be separated at first. He will soon realize you are coming back and not gone for good. xx

Hi AliJ. He does know his name, but they can adapt well if it is changed. My latest boy was called Lurch, ok fine if a big black dog, but not so suited to a small white and fawn boy (check out the our dog page and put his name in, you will see what I mean)! we changed him to Flloyd (don't ask)!, he adapted very quickly and within days, although sometimes I do think he thinks his name is Come Here!!!

Well done Nick! Keep been a good boy. I think most dogs suffer separation anxiety (unlike our cats who just love to see us for good!) But it does get better and I think makes them more loving and loyal. Our jet still gets it abit after 4 years of been with us but we know how to deal with it now and what works but literally could not wish for a better companion, he really is my shadow and always there for a cuddle and to tell secrets too! I dread to think what him and his horse brother would say about me if they could talk! Xxx

We are thinking of changing Brandy's name. I know a lot of people do this when they re-home a hound, but I'm worried he might be a bit confused! How attached is he to his name?

Sorry the update has been a long time coming. For those of you who aren't on Facebook, the CT scan and further biopsies were all clear thank goodness. We've had difficulties keeping him from scratching his ear and stitches. He's had various bandages including a very festive one with holly and a Christmas tree! He's got a soft buster collar too. He's now had the stitches out but still has 5 staples - he'd split one of the stitches. Hopefully the staples will come out on Monday. Maybe he'll even have his fur back for Christmas! Thanks for all the well wishes. x

  • 2019 Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

A cold day and one a bit short on volunteers, so today's exercise was done in the sand run. The inmates do like to have a good run. Thanks to everyone who came in and helped. We saw the lovely Liza reserved, so pending her home check she may well be in residence in a new home, just in time for Christmas. It was a close call between her and Jet! Bit of a drama this afternoon, Lecky had to make an unscheduled trip to the vets, she had a cut on her face. Looks like she may have got her nose through the bar's of the run and made contact with someone's tooth,. This has been glued, but may need to be stitched if this doesn't hold. Thanks so very much to Lisa for taking her.

Update on Nick. He is doing really well, loves his food and is very good with his little human sister! He is suffering with a little separation anxiety but his family are working on this, as always we are on the end of the phone to offer advise. When I spoke to his Mom this morning he was quite happily curled up on his bed. So very pleased for this lad. x
