I’m Homed
I just thought i would come on here to let people know that Ronnie (Kado) passed away on Monday (01/08/2022). He was the sweetest doggo you could ask for. It took him about 3-4 weeks to settle in back in 2018 but once he did he really came out of his shell. i can't tell you how close him and I became, he was like my shadow, he would always be by my side. He was loved so much, everyone that met him loved him too. He will be missed greatly! I wish i could upload some photos on here to show you how at home he was. He really did mean the world to me.

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
It was so lovely to walk my Bronking Bocko yesterday. Although I am sad to see him returned he was one of my favourites back in 2019. He does appear older & a little less confident. For those who remember Robbie, god rest his soul, he did a "Robbie" so it took a little while to get going but once he did he still walks beautifully and did not seem bothered by traffic or bikes etc. I kept him in sight of Prince as obviously they are used to each other. Mikey was another of my favs so again, sad but lovely to see him but being still so young I think he might be more resiliant. It is so hard for those in middle & old age finding themselves returned as I know only too well. If I didn't have my 3 Bocks would be most welcome at mine. I would love to give him a break from kennels for a day but I couldnt take Prince as well as I couldnt fit 5 in here!!! It is tight but doable for 4 providing the 4th is placid. Cousin Dessie has long moved on to Anglesey so maybe a day out if he can bear to leave Prince. I also walked Sarah who was a lovely well behaved young lady. Con was a hoot as I was trying to help his walker lead him up! Once we all got going walkies were nice. Lovely to see Chris & Matthew again.

We had a few more volunteers than normal today which was great. So all the inmates had morning and afternoon walks. They also had their teeth cleaned and a good groom. Thanks to everyone for their help today. We have yet another member join the FFP club today with Robin being officially adopted. Well done sweetie. There are several viewings booked for the weekend, so fingers crossed we see more red and Green signs. Xx

Molly
I’m Homed
Molly’s doing really well now. She’ll lie next to me on the sofa and is getting more confident with Paul. She’s found where we keep the toys and most of them have been pulled out and played with, and she’s found the recycling box and brought a few tins into the living room! She loves her food and is very responsive and learns quickly so will be easy to train - she’s getting good at ‘leave’, ‘wait’ and ‘stay’. She is starting to do zoomies and loves going for a walk so stands quietly while her lead is put on. She’s a little darling!

We bumped into the lovely Rosie and her dad today, up in Birmingham while we were admiring the Commonwealth Games Floral display by the cathedral. She really is a sweet, lovely girl with a beautiful shiny black coat. I think they were heading up to see the Bull! X

Josh
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Josh was sadly returned as he had been displaying uncharacteristic aggressive behaviour towards his owners. In the kennels he was extremely stressed so Ruth asked me to foster him. Since taking him home, I have delayed putting on a post (which I usually do quickly) as it has been a stressful few days trying to get Josh to eat, take his meds and assess his unpredictable behaviour. Staying at the kennels would have escalated his stress and this would have made it more difficult to assess him by Ruth and her team. As you know from Ruth's previous post, we had an emergency vet trip on Sunday as Josh sustained an injury to his shoulder after an altercation with Caesar. From recent photos and the stitches, the vets say it does not look like a bite. It seems that Josh simply collided with the crate which caused his injury. Following this incident, it feels very much like 'why oh why does this happen?' However, It needs to be understood that the greyhounds I work with have issues and, sometimes serious issues, and it does create a risk that they suddenly do something unexpected. What I have discovered so far is that Josh is fine whilst standing. He has not displayed any snapping or lunging whilst standing. It is different when he is lying down, he becomes very defensive, is easily startled but the risk of lunging and snapping is dramatically increased. He sometimes provides warning signs but on other occasions it is from lying down to attack in a split second. This happened at the weekend and yesterday both towards Caesar. I have also noticed that his pupils are constantly dilated which is a concern - for his protection he is muzzled for the majority of the time. Our plan of action is firstly an appointment with a Chiropractor. If this does not show anything obvious we will have him fully assessed and if that does not give us any answers we will go to a certified clinical animal behaviourist who is a sighthound specialist. Although I am a dog trainer and enroute to becoming a qualified animal behaviourist, sometimes you need to accept your own limitations. Hence I have asked someone with more experience to potentially take Josh's case on. He is a lovely boy when on all fours and comes for a cuddle. He is a very gentle and sensitive soul and our main priority is to find a solution as to why he exhibits this behaviour and how we can help him overcome it.

Mikey
I’m Homed
Took the delightful Mikey to Earlswood Lakes and he was golden as usual. He settled very quickly in the car and was excited to get out and go for his walk. Once again, he walked well on his lead and was unbothered by people or other dogs. He wasn’t too keen on dipping his paws in the water but loved walking alongside it. He enjoyed a doggy ice cream for his good behaviour and we look forward to taking him out again xx
