Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
It was typical Bank Holiday weather today! Dull and overcast but there was nothing dull about our lovely dogs! :)) They all enjoyed their morning walks and it warmed up enough for them to have some time outside in the runs before more walks this afternoon. :)) A lovely couple who met Georgie yesterday came back to see her again today and Reserved her! So happy for this super little girl. 🙂 We had a visit from Handsome Tom and his Mum Sue...he wasn't too impressed about having his nails clipped! Gorgeous Bolt came to see us too. Many thanks to Hillary for all the donations. Xxx Very sadly Josh came back to the kennels this afternoon. We will do our best to find him another home. His owner was very upset to have to teturn him. Xxx We are so grateful to Jayne for coming in and giving the memorial garden a makeover. It looks great and a fitting tranquil and beautiful space to sit and remember. Xxx Thanks so much to everyone for your help today and spending your May Day with us. :)) Xxx

Gracie (Chloe)
I’m Homed
We have just had the pleasure of Chloe’s company for a day, for a sleepover with our big lad. He wasn’t impressed at having to share his home, but we absolutely loved Chloe. She is a superstar, and we wanted to write something here to help find her a loving forever home. Chloe walks amazingly well on the lead. She trots on, and likes to sniff. She is interested in her surroundings but doesn’t pull. She was also interested in a couple of cats we saw and a Westie, but was very easy to move along. She seems to understand that outside is for toilet business, and appears mostly house trained - signalling to go outside already. She trots over when you call “come on” but doesn’t seem to know her name at all. She did try a bit of counter surfing but again, easily corrected. She is food oriented so we are certain that training would be easy. The stairs were of interest and eventually she managed them! She went up all by herself and eventually figured out how to come down alone too. She travelled well in the car, settling quickly in the boot after jumping in by herself! She loved chasing a ball-on-a-rope in the garden, tossing it around and doing some zoomies. She is very playful! She found some cuddly toys of interest and a kong, so had a go on those too. After play time she took herself off to her crate or settled on a bed or the sofa and had a snooze. She is extremely affectionate, enjoying lots of fuss and had a lean. She was a little worried when one of us left the house but soon settled again. She slept really well overnight in her crate. Chloe was a brave girl for her first time in a home, and very well behaved. She is a loving, funny, curious little lady. Whoever gets her will have a pretty much perfect dog! She deserves to find herself a comfy sofa.

We were a bit depleted for help today, so many thanks to everyone who came in and helped. The inmates all had morning and afternoon walks. It was fairly quiet for visitors apart from some sand run bookings including the now regular Sunday morning Beagle party! Our favourite boy Mikey came in for a health check and looked fantastic, he then had some fun in the sand run. He is doing really well. Andy who is out on foster also came in, he too is doing really well and has started to enjoy his food more, so he will be having some extra food now he has settled. Thanks to his foster family for taking such good care of him...hmm it's very difficult to give a foster dog back, who knows what may happen? Well, as always stay safe and well everyone.

Timmy has had a busy month. I worked with him to get used to sights and sounds. He sometimes still gets nervous when a car/van passes with a trailer or an empty but noisy truck. He is no longer reacting to the wheelie bin or a bag other then showing interest. I have taken him to the market when they were setting up and he was very curious about a large truck and a small trailer. I am really pleased with him how he has responded to desensitisation. We also had a long trip all the way to Weston Super Mare. He was brilliant during the car journey. We had one stop to allow them to relief themselves. It was very exciting for all of them (Barney and Caesar) they were constantly air scenting. The beach was a challenge as there were dogs running off lead. Timmy found the kites also a scary experience. Overall he did really well and we stayed till the tide come in and he could (hesitantly) explore the sea water. I also took Timmy with me to the Nuneaton dog training club. We had a morning for instructors. This was a perfect opportunity to do some lead work with him. I was really impressed with him as he nicely approached a dog and engaged well with her. Even with a little wirehaired Jack Russell. We did some heel work with him and he was doing well. Timmy, is not a cat dog. He will definitely react to cats and squirrels. He is relatively good with other dog breeds. He is not always interested in them. In fact I feel he is helping Caesar who is reacting a lot less to other dogs with Timmy around. So thank you Timmy with helping Caesar. I have done some more owner absent related behaviour assessments. As I have mentioned before he is fine with me leaving the house if Caesar and Barney are around. He will settle and wait for my return. If I take Barney and Caesar with me, that is a different story. He will start to call for the pack quickly. In terms of managing this, best if he has other Greyhounds around him. Timmy, is a really lovely dog. He is certainly a peoples dog. He will always go up to them wag his tail like mad and happily take all the fuss he can get. He is also doing well with my daughter and is getting used to her occasionally going a bit mad. Timmy is so much more relaxed now and less scared of the world. He seems to really have come out of his shell and now and then is so very playful. It is great to see.
