What a whirlwind of a day!!! I saw Holly off out on trial this morning, Reggie and Ronnie had their nails cut and corns sorted, Razzle was next for a big corn to be dug out. I saw Katie and Mo for nail clipping along with Cal. Poor Poppy came up for nails and corns too. We sent Mac out to foster, we sorted out loads of donations that were brought in and the sand run was busy as usual. We spent time with Billy who is coming out of his shell and cleaned the teeth and groomed all of the inmates. Thank you to the fabulous volunteers who helped walk today and also to keep me sane! I couldn't do it without you all x

    I’m Homed

There was a definite touch of Autumn in the air today as it was very misty first thing, but it turned into a beautiful day with some lovely sunshine. Our boys & girls enjoyed both morning and afternoon walks. Our Friday Team doubled in size as we welcomed 3 new students from Solihull College. All on Animal Welfare & Management courses, they will be doing their work placements with us until next Summer. There is so much for them to learn, it must be quite daunting, but they threw themselves in with enthusiasm and were surprised at just exactly what it does entail to keep the kennels running on a daily basis - it's not just about walking the dogs!!! We hope they enjoy their time at Daybreaks and learn lots. It was a very quiet day for visitors so with the students able to pick up the walking, I was able to stay on site and finally tackle rearranging the dog kitchen - apologies to Ruth, Kate & Jo if they can't find anything now!!! Amazingly the weekend is here again - the diary is incredibly busy tomorrow, it looks like Ruth is going to spend the day on her knees tackling corns!! "Young" Mikey is doing very well with his training for bolting his food. When we put his bowl down we make him "wait" until he has calmed down before he can go and eat. It didn't take him long to pick this idea up, and although you can see he is absolutely bursting to get to his food, he will calm down & wait to be released. Bless him, he is such a lovely boy and would love to find the right home soon. I shall be raising a nice glass of white wine later to toast all our boys & girls - may forever sofas soon be theirs. Our "Mr & Mrs" "Old" Mikey & Lady are still hoping for that special someone to offer them a home together, and nervous boy Billy would like a home with a companion to give him confidence. Although having said that he is coming along really well now, it really is just a matter of time and patience for him. Well, whatever you are up to this weekend please stay safe. Cheers! Angie xxx

We are desperately hoping that Lady and 'older' Mikey can be homed together. They came from Ireland together and were kenneled together for five years, their trainer tells us that he would like them to be homed together. Lady looks to Mikey for confidence, they do make a fantastic couple. So Mook, if you want to adopt another two, give us a call!

Bullet has not arrived at the kennels, so sadly we cannot confirm if he is cat friendly or not.

Thanks as always for everyone's help today. It was lovely to welcome Paul back to the Wednesday walkers team, its been a long time since we last saw him. We were also happy to welcome Annabel to Daybreaks, she is one of our placement students from Solihull College, really hope she enjoys her time with us and learns lots to help to develop her career working with animals. The weather was kind once again so the inmates (all apart from Lady who is post op) enjoyed two nice walks. It was a quiet day for visitors, just food collections and bedding donations. I had an update this morning about Libby, she is settling really well, so very happy for her and her family. Nervous boy Billy is gaining in confidence every day, there were several of us who throughout the day went and sat in his kennel with him. I even got a kiss!! A belated thanks to everyone who came to Tiggys Greyt Get Together on Sunday, what a fantastic amount you all raised for us to look after the kennel dogs....Amazing. As always, stay safe and well. Hopefully we can get some more events booked and see lots more of you soon.

    I’m Homed

Are we not lucky! I (we) don’t, as rule, provide a forever home to a foster dog. This is because we want to keep availability for other dogs who may need my help with behaviour. After 5 months of no luck, we slowly fell in love with this very entertaining boy. Together with Ruth’s brilliant idea of Barney becoming a sponsor dog we could not say no. Barney and Caesar are good mates, if one gets up the other one follows, they play together and have brotherly fights. When Caesar does become poorly he will have Barney as support and a soul mate. Barney, is therefore also going to be important to Caesar. My wife tells Barney regularly “you are my favourite”. Barney can be a challenge in terms of behaviour but with the continued training I am providing to both Barney and Caesar they are getting better and better. We need to think about how we can let Barney enjoy a canal boat as he regularly tries to climb on to one when we walk along the canal. If you are interested in sponsoring a dog contact the kennels on 0121 782 7702

Mac is such a happy boy. He is interested in everything which,I think, is why he is quite strong on the lead. What a gorgeous friendly boy he is. Cuddles for him tonight. Xxx
