Warrior is such a handsome boy. Xxx He has been a little stressed since he arrived at Daybreaks but is starting to settle. He loves lots of fuss and going for a walk. Xxx

It was great to see Theo go home today. Xxx He is such a lovely lad, he has been the perfect guest at the kennels and a pleasure to look after. When it was time for him to leave; he jumped into the car and lay down! 🙂 Wishing him and his new Mum lots of great times together. Xxx

    I’m Homed

Charlie has been with us a week now. He's still shadowing us a bit, but has been left alone for various amounts of time, and even when for a few hours, everything seems ok when we come back. The night before last, he slept all the way through without a peep, until 5:45am. Last night, he started off ok but woke me up around 2am. I put him outside and, to be fair, he did have a wee, then was quiet until around 5:15am. I think he's definitely still on racing kennels breakfast times. Yesterday, I arranged a doggy date for Charlie with one of our friend's dogs, an older female golden doodle. They met ok and we went for an on-lead walk together, which Charlie behaved for. Today, he met a male saluki cross, a few years older than him, and again, he was fine. We've seen a couple of small dogs over the past few days - I worried slightly when a fluffball of a white Pomeranian came towards us - but so far, he hasn't lunged at any of them. He also met a black Labrador and a white and tan spaniel a couple of days ago and was ok with them too. He's still enjoying his food, and after I made the crate in our front room look more inviting, he's taken to going to bed in there at night (the door is always open). He's also swiped some of my decaff coffee and tried to have Andy's the next night. He looked at my cup of tea earlier too. We've still not experienced a moving cat. We've passed two, but they were still. He's a very lovely boy. We just need him to settle that bit more, but he's had a few changes from racing kennels, to Daybreaks, to castration, then coming home with us, all in less than a month.

What a very busy day!...Apologies to anyone who called and had trouble getting through to us. The phoene was constantly ringing. Xx We had several visitors for nails and corns. So nice to see Maggie and her lovely Angel and George. Poor George was not impressed about having his corn removed! Andy had popped in to see Ruth and ended up holding onto George while he had his corn worked on! :)) We also had a visit from a lovely family lookig for a friend for their older Greyhound. Xx Steve brought donations in from Pets at Home. So kind of him to collect them for us. :)) Thanks so much to all our volunteers today. Yvonne as usual did everything this morning. :)) Xxx Xxx

Annie is gorgeous. She is the double of our Cilla in both looks & personality. She is also related to both Nifty & Cilla. Whoever has this little girl will be very lucky.

    I’m Homed

I agree Annie looks very sweet and she looks like my lovely Nina who I lost a few months ago, but still seems most days like yesterday still. Like Jet Lucy, it is hard to think about having another hound until you feel the time is right and your grieving is complete so that our new boy or girl will be able to walk into a new place in our hearts that is theirs alone, not just to fill a place left by her which will always be hers, as the other Greys we have loved and lost. I feel we are getting there. Meanwhile, I have Fat neck Finn to entertain us with his antics. He was sat watching me chop up sweet potatoes and butternut squash today for soup and as we have had hounds in the past who loved carrots I threw him a piece and told him how good it was. He looked at it, sniffed it, pushed it away with his nose and stared at me with a look that said, "Are you having a laugh ? It should have chicken wrapped around it" Have you run out of sausages !!! xx

Annie truly is a beautiful girl but surprisingly just no one has shown any interest in her! She played nicely with a non greyhound and just so sweet.

  • Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

After a very damp start to the day the sun came out and it was quite warm. Thanks to everyone for their help today, we had two lovely new ladies come in to volunteer (well one was a previous volunteer from around six years ago)! They both said they really enjoyed the day. Our Duke of Edinburgh student Kitty came in, armed herself with grooming tools and gave the dogs a lovely brush. It was fairly quiet for visitors, Monty popped in with his family to use the sand run, get some treats and tickets for the hoomans for our concert hosted by Mike Stewart Lawrence on 11 September. Tickets are available from the kennels at £7 each, it will be a really good night and all proceeds are being donated to the kennels. It was great to have Lynne back again today, Simon came to pick her up and whilst he is still quite poorly he looked a little better. Well, I will finish with the usual wish that everyone stays safe and well. X

    I’m Homed

Apologies for the delay in adding Kevin’s wonderful homing photos taken on Friday when I met his lovely new mum and dad who drove all the way from Scotland to adopt him! The week previously Andy and I had driven him to Devon to a lady desperate to adopt following the loss of her previous greyhound. The elderly lady needed a cat friendly, house trained, good on and off lead, gentle boy but sadly on seeing him she felt he was too big. Anyway I always say fate plays a hand and due to a post on Facebook following our wasted trip to Devon, he had the offer of this new home. He travelled like a dream and I’ve had lots of wonderful updates letting me know he has settled in and very happy. I’m very grateful to Sandra and Martin for meeting us on the M5 to take him for a week to avoid him stopping in kennels and also to those who made a donation to Daybreaks Trust - your support is truly appreciated. I’m also grateful to his new family for adopting him…. I know he is safe and will have a wonderful life. We’ve had a wonderful and much needed weekend away and I caught up with ‘heart monitor’ Tommy who is despite his originally poor prognosis is still going strong!!! I’m just hoping my sprained ankle will allow me to drive to the kennels tomorrow!!!!! :-@ x Ruth
