A nice bright, sunny but chilly day. Thanks to everyone who came in to clean, feed and walk, both morning and afternoon walkers were done. The behind-the-scenes areas of the kennels look remarkably different, there has been somewhat of a makeover taking place. Thanks to Dave for all of his hard work, moving, rearranging and tidying, it made a change from him battling with nature and the constant sweeping of the never-ending falling leaves! Tiger had a visit from his new family, as did Lola. All being well they will both be going home with their prospective owners very soon. Thanks for the donations of bedding. We had a few visitors come along to use the sand run including Billy who was Ben when in the kennels. Little Cara also popped in for a visit, it is always lovely to see how our ex-residents are getting on and how well they look. Well, we should be having some new arrivals this week, so watch this space!

How wonderful to hear how Kylie is doing, she sounds like a real character. I remember when she and her brothers and sisters arrived back at the kennels in such sad circumtances and were dubbed the 'Famous Five'! Pleased she is doing well. Jo and the furry five. X

She is gorgeous, I lost my boy in August and I've realised that her great grandad was his dad, good genes!

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Yesterday was Kylie's 5th anniversary with us. She's now 14 and 1/3 years old, well, I should say, young, as she's still in denial of her golden years. She still has her sister Lucy who's now 12 years young and Kylie is still very much Queen K, keeping us on the straight and narrow i.e. being her dutiful servants! We all went to The Lakes again in the Spring and just over a month ago and she enjoyed herself nosing around and lounging and sleeping on the bed (and trying to get into the kitchen in the B&B). The last time, we went up to Gretna too, just because it was a beautiful autumn day, so that's the second time she's been to Scotland in just over a year. She got a bit over-tired and over-excited in Gretna and when we all went out in the evening in the car, she wouldn't wait for Andy to lift her in the boot to come back to the B&B and fell out and snapped one of her delicate nails. Luckily, we were only 5 minutes' drive away and the owners run a Greyhound Trust branch too (South Lakes) and were able to patch her up when we got back. She still gallops in from outside given the chance i.e. when she slips past our attempts to slow her down, loves the sofa - she threw Lucy off it yesterday - and in the past few months, has become very tolerant of other dogs, so she has some other breed doggy friends too. I've started giving them pasta in recent months to keep some weight on them now they're advancing in years, and Kylie is like a pasta hoover. She chatters very loudly for it - which gives a change from the 'singing' for everything else - and then gobbles it up. I still don't believe she's had an accident in the house, and if she has, it was only once, but I'm not actually sure it was her. The nickname 'Bright Eyes' still very much fits and she still absolutely insists on as much fuss as possible and if there's a human hand hanging down doing nothing, it will be nudged to apply itself in fuss mode to Queen K. She goes out on her walks and toddles along well enough, even if they have to be a bit shorter now, and she does love frequent sniff stops too. Her tail is still very waggy and when Andy had to take her to the vet to get a different nail seen to a couple of months or so ago, he apparently couldn't believe she was 14 and said she was in good shape. She is still a huge character, a very positive girl and a big part of our family.

It was so lovely to meet Cassie’s new family and the reason their homing took so long was possibly the amount of times I interrupted the office ooops! It was with such sadness seeing Kallies owners with the news that she has gone to Rainbow Bridge at the grand age of 12. She was a great character and will be very sadly missed. Another star is shining bright. I’m working on a very exciting fundraising project... to help raise funds towards the new fire alarm system we would like at Daybreaks.... all will be revealed very soon. Ruth x

Despite the damp start the day brightened up and we had lots of visitors to the kennels today. :)) Thanks to all our volunteers who braved the rain, it was lovely to see Stacy who came in on a visit home from University. Xx Harley, now called Cassie went off to her new home, complete with a new coat wardrobe! 🙂 Thanks so much to her lovely family for their patience, it was very busy, it took us a while to complete the paperwork! Xx Gorgeous Louise was reserved. Brilliant news! Xx Many thanks to everyone who came in with bedding and stopped to say Hello to the dogs...they loved all the extra attention. :)) Dave and Simon worked very hard to clear out the bedding store! After a late visit this afternoon the family who came to see Tiger have reserved him! Fab! :)) xx We are expecting more new arrivals next week...how exciting! 🙂 Xxx

Oh no loud bangs are back again. Time for Classic Fm Pet sounds, calming plug, collar and thunder shirt. Going to be a long week. The music is really helping totally recommend the Classic FM! Anyway I am terrified I’m getting better but still very sacred. Currently upstairs not moving for anything not even food! Well I might have been sneaky earlier when the bangs weren’t around. Mom was out on poop scooping duty in the garden while Samantha and Dad was at the football so I took my opportunity to allow myself in the kitchen and sniff out some of those tasty bones that Auntie Klaire gave me! Didn’t think she would suspect anything but I was caught out by the loud noise the stupid packet made. Thanks for that loud packet I was caught and had it taken away as I’ve only just finished the first one! Lubs Barney Xx

Absolutely love this beautiful little girl. She is very shy and wary of the world at the moment bless her. This morning she did back off when approached, but then came forward too! She is obviously curious about all these humans and happenings around her, and with quiet and gentle interaction we will build her confidence. She is so sweet. xxx
