Topsy
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Firstly I would like to thank all those on the facebook page who were so kind when we lost Topsy a few weeks ago. I have never owned such an intelligent, refined, placid, tolerant dog - and my heart is broken that her passing was so traumatic (sudden collapse). In the words of Kipling I truly "gave my heart for a dog to tear". I initially agreed to let my boy (who loved Topsy and was more heartbroken than the rest of us) choose another dog which led to a visit to the Dogs Trust and a truly horrible experience (being paired with a lurcher that had serious psychological issues related to VERY extreme seperation anxiety with hyper fixation on one family member that they neglected to inform us of - the fact he had been returned twice and no work had been done by them with him to help should have been a red flag) - and we had to return him. So we will be doing what I wanted to do in the first place and looking into our third Grey.

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
I’ve just logged on for the first time in a few weeks and it is great to read all that has been going on at Daybreaks. I am eternally grateful to Kate, Jo and every volunteer who gives up their time to keep the place running. I went in for surgery on 15th July expecting a max 2 night stay then on the road to recovery however after being discharged on the Wednesday I was readmitted on Saturday and had further surgery on the Monday. After a spell in ITU I was discharged the following Sunday and I’m now at home with a strict 10 week minimum recovery slapped on me! I am also grateful to Denise who has had Tigger Stripy Pants for me and she has been to be spayed and had her pins removed and to Rosie who has been looking after Momma.... I am looking forward to having them back once all my staples have been removed and I have a bit more energy for the Tig monster! I can’t wait to get to the kennels for a visit which I hope to do Saturday and eventually being back fit and healthy. Ruth x

I’m Homed
It was very, very wet today! We managed to get the morning walks done but this afternoon was a monsoon!! Can't believe yesterday we were using the hosepipe to cool the dogs down! 🙂 We had a gorgeous new arrival at lunchtime. Ringo is a lovely pleasant natured lad who absolutely loves lots of cuddles. :)) Many thanks to Jayne, his Trainer for dropping him off at the kennels. Nifty and Shiftie...sorry Cilla 🙂 came in to see Jess for a mini pamper. It was great to see them. Xx Charisma's prospective new family came to take her for a walk but because it was so wet she had a trip to Melbicks instead! She had a great time. :)) Halfway through feeding this afternoon there was a flash of lightning and a loud crack of thunder. Some of the dogs were really frightened including our own dogs. It's sad to see them all so scared. Fortunately that was all the thunder we heard. Fingers crossed we don't have anymore storms tonight. Many thanks to Richard and Declan for making a trip to the tip for us and to everyone for their hard work and for getting extremely wet all day! Xxx

Dewey (Dew)
I’m Homed
Our little dew drop is much happier than the sad little girl who came back to the kennels recently. She greeted us this morning with a waggy tail and was happy to come out of her kennel to have her breakfast and dinner. She is always looking to Willis for support. If he goes up to say hello to someone she will follow. He is a real gentleman. They do make a lovely couple! It would be wonderful if they could find a home together! :)) Xxx

I think Seana's comments have summed up today at the kennels perfectly, :)) It was a pleasure to have her help and enthusiasm and the company of her lovely Teddy and Melly. It's true Lyra was not impressed with Teddy's advances and the look on her face was priceless! 🙂 Xx It was a warm day, we took everyone out for a walk this morning but got the paddling pool and hosepipe out again this afternoon. Looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow we will be back to wearing raincoats! Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today. I am so grateful and so are the doggies! :)) Xxx

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Due to staff shortages I offered to help Kate out today and have just completed my first ever 9 hour shift!!!! What an interesting & enjoyable experience....for me but maybe not for Auntie Kate???? I helped with everything from cleaning, feeding, health checks & walks!! It is amazing how much is involved on a daily basis to look after these lovely boys and girls and there was barely more than 20 mins taken during 9 hours to have a quick breather. I never imagined just how long it all takes and the whole team has gone up a couple more notches in my admiration for all they do on a daily or regular basis. I was able to take my own two to spend the day with Kate's Lyra & Skip which meant I could spend all day there. It was a change of scenery for them and I think they quite enjoyed themselves. Teddy decided he realllly liked Lyra!!! Having decided to be brave & bold & give her a kiss she sadly didnt reciprocate his advances but was looking to Kate as if to say Mum you just let this common brindle kiss me!!!!! My poor child....he just loves everyone and all breeds too. Melly just looked on as if to say well Lyra look at the bright side you get to go home....I get to go home & await my regular ear washing but hes my brother so I can't offend him! Lovely to see Helen, Annette, Dave, Barry & Dave no2. Thank you for your company and chat. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon. I am so exhausted....not being used to hard graft!!! I am now having a lovely large Pimms before my dinner and both Melly & Teddy are fed & resting nicely. Xx

It's with immense sadness we have to let everyone know we've had let out precious Gracie (baby) go today. She was suffering with end stage kidney disease for a while now, and also very unsteady on her legs. We are devastated and heartbroken beyond belief. Gracie is on her way to meet Blaze and Jack on Rainbow bridge RIP our beauty ????
