Thanks to everyone who took a dog on the Brueton park walk and braved the weather this morning. Those not lucky enough go either had a walk in the rain or some fun in the sand run. What a contrast to last week! We had a few visitors, some just to have a look around, but sadly not able to offer a home yet and potential homers, others for food and to send well wishes to Ruth. This afternoon left just Dave and myself at the kennels. Thanks Dave for taking all the dogs in turn into the sand run whilst I prepared their dinners. When we left they were all curled up comfy on their beds nice and warm and dry.

Bocko was a good boy at Brueton today, he walked passed various dogs with little interest! X

Annie joined me again to the walk a Brueton Park, we had a lovely walk with lots of other greys. Annie travels well in the car as usual, once we arrived at the park we met all the greys where she interacts beautifully. However we then had some non greyhounds Annie did her usual jumping and leaping around :(. We managed to walk round the park, we would stand still when another breed was near and this seemed to control her reactivity. By the end of the walk we were able to walk past dogs which were on the lead and calm with only a stare rather than her leaping about. However if they are off lead, then she reacts. Fingers crossed over time she can get used to non greys and find her perfect home in the mean time xxx

Well, what a difference in the weather today! There were only a few walkers but we managed morning and afternoon walks. I got the chance to go out too:) I took lovely Bocko who walks so well on the lead as do Tommy and Wendy. We all got quite wet but it was great! :)) Very cute Charisma has been reserved! She needs to meet a small doggy member of the family next week, so fingers crossed for her. Bolt came in for a pamper with Jess. He had a little run around in the sand run, then had a bath. 🙂 He looks great! Xx A much cooler night in the kennels, hopefully all the doggies will sleep better tonight. Thanks to all who helped out today. :)) Xxx

    I’m Homed

Despite the summer hols having started another good roadshow today at Melbicks with a very steady stream of people visiting this ever popular garden centre. The advantage of a rainy day brought families out either for a browse or to buy planters etc for when the sun returns!! I took my helper Bell who was her usual chilled & charming self and as always was good with everyone and no problem at all with all the various breeds that came to say hello. She didnt like coming back to the kennels although once it was announced that dinner was ready she settled down. She has a lovely temperament & is very much a people dog. She would let you cuddle her all day long so it would be nice if she got a home where someone was around a fair bit. Sarah took another resident, Paige, who was equally chilled and well behaved. It was her first time out of the kennels at a roadshow and she was not at all phased by all the small breeds or children. Another girl with a lovely temperament. I had a long chat with a nice retired couple who lost their greyhound to cancer after 10 years together and they feel the time is right to adopt another so after an upcoming holiday they will hopefully come and let one of our present boys and girls choose them as their forever parents. They seemed very keen and were it not for the upcoming holiday would probably have taken my Bell home there & then!!! All of the boys and girls are waiting so patiently for the chance to shine outside of kennel life. On my return to the kennels there was a lovely retired couple in one of the runs with Charisma. They lost their greyhound only this week having just had him for a few months. It was also cancer but they were very philosophical and just delighted that they were able to provide a lovely last few months full of trips away etc to this lovely boy. I remember Tony as I am involved with DT as well so they have my condolences but hopefully Charisma has found herself a new home and they are returning this week and hoping to bring a friend who is seriously considering rehoming a greyhound. The lady often looks after their daughter's boy so has experience with the breed. All in all it sounds very positive and I am praying to see a couple of reserved signs over the next couple of weeks. Many thanks to Jill & Paul, Mark & Tanya & Sarah together with Buddy, Berry, Nifty, Cilla & of course Paige & Bell for their enjoyable company today. Look forward to seeing you again in 3 weeks. Have a good week everyone. It will hopefully be a more comfortable and cool one! Xx

    I’m Homed

The lovely beautiful Paige came with me to Melbicks this morning. She lay down straight away and travelled well in the car. Paige greeted little people and small puppies and was wonderfully behaved. She is an absolute dream and I was heart broken to drop her back at the kennels. If only !?!!?. She will make some very happy.

    I’m Homed

What a relief it was for everyone to be a lot cooler today! We had plenty of volunteers first thing so the doggies all had a lovely walk this morning, they enjoyed being out and about and not being hot. In a very untypical Friday style we were very busy for visitors with customers for the run and pampers, and some viewings. The weekend is here again and it is a busy one, with roadshows at Melbicks on both days and the Brueton Park walk on Sunday. Must confess the forecast doesn't look too promising with warnings of rain! Typical British weather - boiling one minute and drowning the next!! Fingers crossed that whatever the weather, some of our lovely boys & girls may find the forever homes they are so deserving of - and I raise my glass of chilled white wine to them all. Have a great weekend one and all - cheers! Angie xx

    I’m Homed

It was unbearably hot today. 🙁 The residents didn't go for any walks today. The temperature was high in the twenties even at 10am this morning. We did our best to keep them cool throughout the day. Eric went mad in the paddling pool and we are sure he peddled all the water in the direction of kennel mates Bell and Honey on purpose! They all sported wet bandanas to help cool them down and after dinner they all got another soaking with the hosepipe. :)) We had very few visitors but Yvonne our lovely volunteer popped in to say hello, she is still wearing a plaster cast on her wrist after falling and breaking it. Get better soon Yvonne. We also saw Hector and Teddy, both looked very happy. :)) So grateful to all who came into help today. Especially Shirley, Richard, Lucy and Declan who stayed all day and braved the heat. The ice creams and donuts helped! :)) Hoping the kennel doggies and everyone's pet doggies stay as cool,as possible tonight. Xxx

Well today has been an adventure. Apparently I have been a very good boy!! We drove for a few hours to this town called books Stan. I do wonder what his favourite books are and it’s very weird how I haven’t met Stan yet. The hoomans say it’s in Derbyshire. Anyway as I’m here I just want to say how dog friendly the town is. Huge park to walk around and lots of dog friendly cafes and shops!!! We are going to adventure to the pet shop tomorrow. Exciting! We have our apartment which we will be staying in for a few nights. I have my own corner where my fold up crate is with all my toys food and water! I love it but I just wish it was a bit cooler! As for my anxiety, I’m getting better but still quite wary when I’m around a lot of people. Also the traffic is quite loud. I’m now relaxing and ready for tomorrow! Barney Xx
