Rob, so sorry to hear Penny had a trip to vets this week. 🙁 None of mine are keen on vet trips either! Hope she will soon feel better. Xxx What a lovely update on how she is settling in with you and your family. It's obvious how much you all adore her. She is a very lucky girl! :))) Xxx

Little update on Penny. Just over 9 and 1/2 weeks since her gotchya day. It has been a magical experience. The love she shows to all the family is cute. Her enjoyment of bouncing round is crazy but fun. Safe to say she doesn't like the vets much... Unfortunately she had to go to James Horner Vets yesterday as she fractured her nail 2 days ago. Blood everywhere which we managed for a day but she then caught it again and the blood was even worse. Vets were great and clipped her nail (Penny HATED that along with the clotting agent for the bleeding) She is now on medication for pain relief and antibiotics for any infection. But overall she was a massive superstar with her visit. She is now a good ol' 33kg from 29kg when we first had her. I can't fault or regret having this little girl, she is just so good! And I'm super proud of my family for making the decision to give her a new home too. Toys - in the living room, bedroom and garden!

    I’m Homed

Yesterday morning I was on my ownsome lonesome with cleaning and feeding which was great as I got a full day of being with the inmates. Our Wednesday walkers came in so all those that were able went on walks and all those who couldn't as they were post op had gentle playtime and extra grooming. Chris and Tom helped out during the afternoon and we are now the proud owners of a lovely slow cooker kindly sent to us by Phil (Growler) and the kids had sausage casserole with Burns for their tea! Worrying how the casserole would affect their toileting, I opened in trepidation but wow - all clean apart from Robbie and Truf Truf. We are well stocked with volunteers and work experience today so I am back in the office attacking paperwork and Alan has just brought me a chocolate donut and a coffee.... it can't get better!

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Great to hear Josh is making such good progress. He is always very quiet and well behaved when he visits the kennels with Erik. So pleased he is still having zoomies in the garden. I can imagine the three of them running around is quite a sight! :))) Do hope Josh continues in the right direction. Thanks so much for the update Erik. Xxx

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

It has been a while but in short, I am happy with Josh's progress. Whilst he is still muzzled 24/7. I am doing supervised muzzle of time. Sometime my 2 other Greyhounds are present other times it is just me and Josh. His aggressive episodes are very rare now and his barks are less intense. It is quite easy to hear the change in tone and hence intensity of his bark with Josh. This also allows me to only respond when needed and try to avoid my response becoming a self-rewarding behaviour for Josh. As mentioned before Josh has the zoomies in the garden, this is getting more frequent. When it is all three boys having fun, it can become boisterous. He will sometimes want to play with me, which is also becoming more frequent. During the Easter holidays, we all went to Kniver edge rock house and the surrounding park. They really enjoyed it but I think it was also a very tiring adventure for Josh. He slept all the way until we were back home. My daughter has become more confident with Josh. She is interacting with him, stroking him and in her gameplay training him. Josh is tolerating and not reacting to her. This is brilliant progress, of course, my daughter is supervised when interacting with Josh. The behaviours I am currently seeing as triggers for barking (sometimes aggressively); • When the other hound(s) are facing him (not directly looking at him) • Overexcited behaviour from my daughter or Caesar. • Wrapping paper or crisp packages • Sometimes he just barks when no one is around. If you think back of his behaviour when he first arrived in our home and where he is now it is amazing progress. The various techniques used are making a difference to Josh. Fingers crossed we can move even more forward.

  • Villa

    I’m Homed

Villa is a very handsome black lad who may be 5 years old in July but unlike many other black greyhounds there is no sign of grey whiskers about him at all. He was keen to get out of his kennel and make his way to the car where he jumped in without any assistance. He walked sensibly on the lead occasionally stopping to just look calmly around him at the various happenings in the park He met several small dogs and was totally at ease with them as he was when meeting a small boy and his mother. A fabulous lad who as his name would suggest is a real winner !!!

    I’m Homed

We've had a lovely weekend allowing Rocky to enjoy chilling outside in the sunshine. We keep his muzzle on as he is still very interested in things that move.... Lots of birds flitting about doing their spring thing. Such an honour to be able offer him this opportunity and experience, we don't think he will have had to date. Still lots of firsts for this lovely lad, he's doing well. He loves to play and he's started offering his tummy and legs in the air too!

Thankfully the grotty weather that was forecast didn’t happen until we had left the kennels. The dogs that could go on a walk did and the post op dogs had some fun in the feeding runs. Thanks to everyone for their help today. I met our new arrivals today, Villa is so gentle when eating his food and Fox is also sensible when eating. Two absolutely handsome hounds. Xx

A brighter day today. :). Angie had everyone fed and kennels cleaned when we arrived this morning. Thank you so much. Xxx Several of our residents are still resting after their recent Neutering ops so only able to go on short walks around the sand run for the next few days. Thanks to Di and Heather for taking the others out for their normal walks this morning. Xxx All the dogs enjoyed some playtime in the runs, there were lot of toys being thrown around! :)) Robbie especially enjoyed himself, he loves his toys! Xxx Laura was kept busy with pampers, it was great to see ex Daybreaks resident Rocky and his owner Michelle. Rocky is now an older gentleman of eleven years, still very handsome! :)) Laura also had the pleasure of bathing our two very gorgeous new arrivals, Villa and Fox. :)) Xxx Many thanks to Gill and Jan for organising all the walks and sand run strolls this afternoon. :)) Thanks so much to Phil, (Rio and Ella's Dad) and his work colleagues who all very generously put together to buy us a slow cooker to prepare meals for our residents. :)) Cooking isn't my thing but Ruth soon had it filled with meat and potatoes this morning which turned into a lovely meal for our boys and girls this afternoon. :))) They all loved it. Xxx We have so many fabulous Greyhounds at Daybreaks ....waiting patiently for their forever homes. Hoping their wait won't be too long. Xxx xxx
